The Drive Tuesday 2-12-13 -Jason LaCanfora from CBS Sports and the NFL Network talks with The Drive about the issues the Carolina Panthers have with the salary cap, who the Panthers could possibly go after in Free Agency. He also discusses his thoughts on the future of Cam Newton if the Panthers don’t make the playoffs next year.
The Carolina Panthers are 16 million over the cap this off-season, so we ask Jason who he sees as the first casualty to get cut by the team.
“They’re are going to have to make some addition by subtraction…I think restructuring Charles Johnson is going to have to happen and maybe sooner rather than later.”
Also they get into the free agent market and who the Panthers will be looking at in the next few months to add to the team.
“I don’t reckon this will be a big free agency year for them…I don’t know if they are going to be in the market for a stud tackle and even at corner I think they are going to have to draft replacements for guys like Gamble that they might lose.”
After this next year the Panthers will have 3 years under Rivera and Cam Newton so we ask Jason if the Panthers not make the Playoffs should fans be concerned that Cam Newton would leave for greener pastures?
“I get that he rubs people the wrong way, I get that he’s a little new school for the old school owner. To me it would be ridiculous to even foster the notion of letting Cam get away or trading him for a couple of draft picks or even for what the Redskins did for RGIII.”
