NC State’s loss at Maryland, and close call against Clemson were so predictable. At some point Mark Gottfried’s teams must stop playing to the level of its competition if they truly want to become elite. Thus, tonight at Wake Forest should be an easy victory. And beating an average North Carolina squad on Saturday shouldn’t be a problem, either. But chances are the more talented Wolfpack will still have their ups and downs, simply because they play off of positive emotion, and struggle when there’s either not enough, or they’re in enemy territory. In order to become a national contender Gottfried and NC State must get past that. In my opinion they are one of the five most talented teams in the country. They must impose their will on teams with inferior talent each and every night. That needs to start tonight in Winston-Salem and continue at home against the Heels on Saturday.
