CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is set to announce that he’s running for his old seat in Congress.
The two-term governor plans a news release and interviews with the media Wednesday in making the announcement to seek the 1st District seat along the state’s coast. Sanford has said that reports that he wants to get back into politics are accurate.
Sanford was considered a possible Republican presidential contender until he revealed in 2009 that he had an affair with an Argentine woman to whom he has since become engaged.
Sanford’s ex-wife Jenny said this week that she won’t be seeking the congressional seat. She said that being at home in South Carolina with her family was more important than making a run for Congress.
