CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — Hip Hop artist Rick Ross was scheduled to perform in the Queen City this weekend, however, the concert has been canceled. Ross opted to cancel the performance after receiving gang threats.

Ross founded the record label Maybach Music Group, and his scheduled performance in Charlotte (at the Bojangles Coliseum,) was part of the record labels’s tour — which Ross was headlining. Additionally, rappers Wale and Meek Mill were scheduled to perform.

The threats originated from the North Carolina Chapter of the Gangster Disciples, who have warned Ross not to come to Charlotte.

The Live Nation Entertainment group has begun issuing refunds.
