MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — Early this morning, authorities discovered a car off of U.S. Hwy 221 in McDowell County. The car, which contained a body, was found down an embankment.

Authorities had previously searched the surrounding area for Elizabeth Stonger, the missing Belmont mother who disappeared in October, after she left the Walmart in Belmont — on her lunch break.

As of this afternoon, authorities have yet to identify the body, however, Stonger’s car plates are identical to those of the car found today.
