I am far from an ND fan, but even I must admit that their return to national prominence is a great thing for the sport of college football.
For example, the ND-USC game did a 10.3 overnight rating on ABC Saturday night. It was the highest rated game of the season by far. And, it was all because ND was playing with a spot in the BCS Title game on the line. After all, USC was a 7-4 team with a backup QB starting, so I know they weren’t the draw.
The 2nd and 3rd highest rated college games this season invloved the SEC and specifically Alabama. What do these numbers prove? That when these two polarizing brands meet (ND and SEC) in Miami, the country will care.
Admit it, you will choose sides in this matchup and for many of you it will be rooting against someone rather than rooting for someone. It’s old school college football dominance vs new school college football dominance. Wake Up the Echoes vs SEC Speed.
And if it is Bama vs ND, it will be two teams that play the same style of play. It will be fascinating. The Fighting Irish try to return to glory and stop the SEC title streak at 6 all in one night. A Hollywood screen wirter couldn’t do better than this one.
