Clowns Disrupt Charlotte KKK Rally Protesting Illegal Immigration
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — Protesters dressed up as clowns to disrupt a Ku Klux Klan rally in Charlotte Saturday.
WBTV reports that members of the KKK were protesting illegal immigration in the state when protesters dressed as clowns held a counter-rally.
“The message from us is: ‘You look silly,’” Lacey Williams, youth coordinator for Charlotte’s Latin American Coalition, told WCNC. “’We’re dressed like clowns and you’re the ones that look funny.’”
A National Socialist Movement spokesman said their rally was to show how political leaders from both sides failed America.
“We are here in defense of white America and standing up against illegal immigration,” spokesman Jeff Schoep told WBTV. “We want to give people a third-party alternative. Voting for Democrats, Republicans has failed this country, nation.”
The KKK were primarily drowned out by the “clowns” using toys and whistles.
“I think it’s really important to have a sense of humor,” Williams told WCNC. “What they want is for us to fight them. They want us to hit them with hate. We can’t become them.”
Members of the Occupy movement also took part in the protest.
No arrests were made after the two-hour rally.
