RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — National Democratic and Republican party leaders are traveling in North Carolina to urge people to cast ballots as early voting begins.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and Democratic counterpart Debbie Wasserman Schultz each planned to participate in campaign events in the state Thursday as in-person absentee voting started.

Schultz has already been in the state this week — participating in a bus tour by the Democratic National Committee and President Barack Obama’s campaign. The bus planned stops Thursday in Raleigh, Wilson, Greenville and New Bern. Democratic gubernatorial nominee Walter Dalton was to speak in Raleigh.

Priebus was scheduled to speak in Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Raleigh. Former Mitt Romney presidential rival Rick Santorum also was expected Thursday in Charlotte, Hickory and Gastonia.

In-person early voting ends Nov. 3.
