Whether you call it a Sophomore slump or not, Cam Newton is struggling in his 2nd season. What is giving him the most problems? Here are some numbers to provide those answers.
3rd Down Performance- He is completing only 43 percent of his passes on 3rd down. And, his QB rating is an unimpressive 63. This is the money down and this helps explain why the Cats are 23rd in 3rd down percentage.
17-That is how many incomplete passes he threw on Sunday. And, 9 of them were bad passes that missed the target.
124- That is Cam’s average rating in the two games where the Panthers topped 150 yards this season. In the other three, his QB rating was only 59. Cam needs a good run game.
0- Amount of completions to TEs other than Greg Olsen. It is clear, this offense is not the same without Jeremy Shockey providing a 2nd TE who can make plays.
4- That is how many defenses the Panthers have faced that are in the bottom 12 in the NFL in total defense. So sadly, Cam is struggling against statistically bad defenses for the most part.
38- That is his rating in the last 2 minutes of a half. Not exactly finishing strong.
28- That is his rank is TD passes. He is tied with Jake Locker, who has only played 3 full games.
