MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – Police say a 2-year-old child nearly drowned to death during an at-home baptism.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WMBF-TV, officers of the Myrtle Beach Police Department were called to an area residence Thursday night in regards to a reported near drowning of a child in a bathtub.
Authorities were additionally told that Micherald Bellamy, 39, was in the tub with the child, and that both were allegedly naked while the child struggled for air.
The witness also informed police that the child was submerged for approximately two to three seconds during what was described as a baptism by Bellamy.
She was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery.
The child, an unnamed 2-year-old boy, did not sustain life-threatening injuries, but was reportedly held overnight at a nearby hospital for observation.
He is now in emergency protective custody, the station learned.
