CHARLOTTE (CBS Charlotte) — Democrats have launched a petition in order to get 90-year-old actress Betty White to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
In response to last week’s Clint Eastwood speech at the Republican National Convention, Change.org launched a petition to get the former “Golden Girls” actress to introduce President Obama at the DNC this week.
The petition says that Eastwood gave elderly Americans a bad name for his “absurd and awkward-to-watch introduction” of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
“Governor Romney can have Clint Eastwood and his improvisational skills because President Obama has the one and only Betty White!” the petition states. “Take action today if you want to see a real [old] Hollywood icon get a political introduction right!”
The Emmy-award winning actress previously endorsed Obama.
The petition has over 8,700 supporters as of Tuesday afternoon.
