HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — An 8-year-old Hilton Head Island boy has died after he was shot while playing in the front yard of a home.

Beaufort County sheriff’s deputies say Khalil Singleton was playing outside a home when shots were fired just before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities were called, and emergency personnel found the boy lying in the front yard. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Deputies say 19-year old Aaron Young Jr. and his father, 36-year-old Aaron Young Sr., have each been charged with one count of discharging a firearm into a vehicle. Authorities say the men shot at another man’s car that was parked near where the boy was playing.

It wasn’t known if the Youngs had attorneys. Authorities are still investigating the shooting.
