YORK, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – Local authorities have arrested a woman accused of holding up a gas station while holding her infant daughter in her arms.
The woman, 23-year-old Ashley Marie Burns, attempted to rob McCray’s Convenience Store on Tuesday morning, WBTV reports.
She reportedly entered the store at approximately 11:45 a.m. with her 23-month-old daughter and a man known only as “Bungee.”
While the man used the restroom, Burns asked the cashier for $40. When he declined to give her money, she allegedly put her free hand into her purse and told the employee she was armed with a gun.
The cashier again declined to help by closing the register, then allegedly said to her, “Please don’t.” Burns then left the store with the man and her daughter, the girl still in her arms.
WBTV learned that officers of the York Police Department found the woman just several blocks away. When they searched her car, they allegedly found a glass pipe and crack cocaine, which Burns admitted to smoking.
They did not, however, find a gun.
Burns told authorities that the money was for “Bungee,” and was intended for him to “help her out.”
She now faces several charges, including attempted armed robbery, possession of crack cocaine and unlawful neglect of a child.
