Taylor’s College Football Predictions
Get ready to call me a homer. I have Alabama winning another national championship. While the Tide lost tremendous first round talent, their depth of four and five star recruits is unmatched in the game. Plus, they’re phenomenal on both sides of the line and bring back BCS MVP AJ McCarron at QB. finally, and most importantly, they have the best coach in the country in Nick Saban. I have them beating USC in the title game.
What about the ACC and teams in this area? Florida State has the league’s best chance to compete for a national title since the turn of the century, and I can’t see a way the win less than 11 games in the regular season. But once Jimbo Fisher gets in a must win situation I wonder if he’s able have his team ready. Thus, I have the Hokies beating the Noles here in Charlotte.
I’m expecting more of the same for the Tar Heels and Wolfpack. I’m predicting both schools to finish with 8 wins, and I have the Heels ending the Pack’s 5 game winning streak. The Tar Heels have really good first team talent but I’m betting a few injuries will cost them some wins. Their defensive depth is a major problem. And I love Mike Glennon at QB for the Pack, as well Amerson and Wolff in what might be one of the country’s best secondaries. But a lack of linebackers, and playmakers on offense makes me believe their season will be similar to the last few.
Duke has the talent to get to a bowl game with Sean Renfree at Quarterback but I’m still betting they won’t get off of the field. meanwhile, Wake Forest lost way too many players on offense. I’m expecting both teams to miss out on a bowl game.
I have East Carolina sliding into a bowl game with a 6-6 record. Their defense is much improved but replacing QB dominique Davis on offense will cause some growing pains. Most importantly, until Athletic Director Terry Holland stops scheduling a murderers row of non conference games, the Pirates will always be fighting for a winning season.
Finally, I think Appalachian State will once again make the playoffs with a 9-2 record. and while many think head coach jerry Moore might step aside, I’m not so sure. That man seems as passionate about what he’s doing as ever.
