RAEFORD, N.C. (AP) — Hoke County authorities say a 19-year-old pizza delivery driver underwent brain surgery after being robbed and beaten with a baseball bat.
Sheriff Hubert Peterkin says Domino’s Pizza driver Tyler Lloyd of Raeford was delivering a pizza ordered over online Friday night when two men beat and robbed him. Co-workers called law enforcement when he didn’t return to the restaurant after 40 minutes, and deputies found him unconscious in his car.
Peterkin says Lloyd was left for dead. He has ordered his deputies to shadow pizza delivery drivers.
Authorities arrested 30-year-old Juan McPhaul of Raeford on Tuesday. He is being held on a $500,000 bond on attempted murder, assault, robbery and conspiracy charges. Peterkin says investigators found evidence at his home while searching it Saturday.
More arrests are expected.
