Ok, it provided for some drama but once again we have a different major winner every single time they tee it up. Nobody is dominating the sport, and that isn’t good for the game. Everyone loves stars, and currently they are missing in golf.

Sure, Tiger was a factor but how many people turned off the television after he tripled the 6th hole? He hasn’t won a major in more than four years and that’s not good for ratings. Even more, the secondary stars are gone like Tiger had 10 years ago. Vijay Singh, David Duval, and Phil Mickelson each were winning a handful of tournaments every year, and they were always in contention in the majors.

Now the other stars like Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, and Rickie Fowler are hit or miss. None win more than two tournaments a year, and none are consistent in the majors. I don’t mean any disrespect to Troy Kelly, Scott Stallings, Marc Leishman, and John Huh but unless you are a diehard fan of the game those names don’t do anything for you.

So, until the game has stars winning multiple majors, and bigger names winning a handful of tournaments the sport will continue to fall short of the mainstream’s attention. Here’s hoping Tiger, Phil, and Rory are in a playoff at Kiawah.
