ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A former Anderson County sheriff’s deputy fired after he was accused of misconduct is facing a new drug charge.

The State Law Enforcement Division says Ronald Shane Thompson turned himself in Wednesday on a charge of illegally possessing hydrocodone. Authorities say Thompson did not have a prescription for the drug, which was found in his patrol car July 2.

That’s the same day Thompson was originally arrested and charged with misconduct. SLED said Thompson was accused of being involved in a number of illegal drug transactions while on duty between November 2010 and April 2012.

Thompson was fired after that arrest. He had worked for the sheriff’s department since 2005.

It wasn’t known if Thompson has an attorney.
