20 Indicted For Conspiring To Distribute Meth
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Federal officials say 20 people from western North Carolina have been indicted on charges that they tried to distribute and manufacture methamphetamine.
U.S. Attorney Anne Tompkins said Wednesday that the group faces charges of conspiracy to distribute, possession with intent to distribute and manufacture methamphetamine.
Indictments unsealed in U.S. District Court say that from January 2009 to about last month, the defendants conspired to distribute, possess with intent to distribute and manufacture more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. In addition to the drug conspiracy charge, each defendant was also charged with one count of possession of pseudoephedrine.
Eight of the suspects are either in state or federal custody. Ten people were taken into custody on Tuesday and appeared before a federal magistrate on Wednesday. Two suspects have not been arrested.
