Tuesday was a big day for me.  It was the day that the web site Football Outsiders put out their 2012 Football Almanac.  This book is the greatest collection of in-depth NFL stats and it comes out every July.   Check out these nuggets on your Carolina Panthers.  They are all courtesy of Football Outsiders and they are all based  on last year’s season.

The Panthers were ranked worst in the NFL in efficiency on Special Teams and on Defense.

They were 4th in the NFL in Offensive Efficiency.

On 70 designed runs last year Cam Newton averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

On shotgun hand offs, Panther RBs averaged 6.3 yards per carry.

The Cats lost 55 games to injury in their front 7. The highest total in 10 years in the NFL.

The Defense was ranked #11 in the NFL in the first quarter, but 32nd for the 2nd half.

Suprisingly the Offense was 4th in efficiency in both the first and second halves.

Chris Gamble was #1 in the NFL in Success rate by a CB. 66 perecent of the time, a pass in his direction was incomplete or interecepted.

Captain Munnerly ranked 5th worst in the NFL in average yards per pass allowed.  And, he was 2nd worst in the NFL in yards after the catch allowed.

The Defense was worst in the NFl on runs up the middle.
