Mac Attack 7/3/12: Former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer stops by and talks with the guys about Cam Newton and more NFL news and notes.

Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Cam Newton’s game and abilities, although he didn’t come out and say he thought a conference championship would definitely be in the cards.

“At this point in time, I like everything I’ve seen about Cam Newton. There’s not a thing about him that I don’t like. I like his ability. I like his competitiveness, and once again he’s got arm strength, he’s got the ability to make good plays out of bad plays.”

He also told us what he believes makes football so interesting at the NFL level. It’s programs like Carolina who change things up and surprise fans.

“I think when you look at the NFL, the thing that has made it so popular and such a competitive sport is year to year, you always find a team or two you thought wouldn’t do very well that steps forward and pieces fit together in their own organization. Then they go out and they win a game or two and they get themselves in a positive mood and all of a sudden they have some measure of success.”
