Anthony Morrow Summer Hoops League

At the conclusion of two full weeks at the Anthony Morrow Summer Hoops League we have seen a tremendous display of young, motivated talent on both the collegiate and international level. We are excited about the competition that has been shown thus far, which includes several current and former ACC , Conference USA, Atlantic 10, Big South and CIAA players giving their all night in and night out. During the first week of play we had a summer hoops record of 5 games go into overtime.

The Back to the Basics team, led by Seth Curry, won a tight overtime game despite suiting only 5 players. We have seen consistent play from UNCC’s Derrio Green, former ECU talent Corey Farmer, and All-CIAA player Trevin Parks. NBA swingman Anthony Morrow has also been playing well, leading the only undefeated team in the league. At the conclusion of week one, our player of the week was former Liberty sensation Larry Blair, who averaged 30points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assist in two games.

After week two, former Memphis Tigers standout Doneal Mack was the league’s second player of the week, averaging 28 points per game. We are looking forward to another exciting week, as teams are steadily evaluating their roster and anticipating the arrivals of additional overseas players yet to reach the states as well as college players going back and forth from summer school.

Stay connected as we continue to give weekly updates from the Anthony Morrow Summer Hoops League Pro-Am.

Power Rankings After Week 1

1. Rosemaxx-A healthy Larry Blair spells trouble for the other 15 teams. Holmes brothers and Matt Morgan and addition of Danny Sanders.
2. Dream Chasers-Morrow and 4 others. Adding some NBA guys could take them to the title. But who will show and how consistent would they be?
3. PTTP-The perennial brides maids of the summer. Same team we see each year. Can they get over the hump this year?
4. LP Protection Agency-Strong young talent and shown the ability to close out games.
5. CLI-Must display the defense and fast pace style that took them to the title in 2011.
6. Blucandy-Doneal Mack shows he is not interested in losing. Nobody ever guards Prince Parker for some reason. Dewaun Harris attitude issues could be their undoing?
7. PCS-One name..Thomas Mobley. Way too much on his brother Brian’s shoulders.
8. Charlotte Kings-Biggest team in the league. But summer league guys just don’t want to throw the ball down in the post.
9. BTTB-Scary team if Curry stays and Skeen comes back. Put that with Ian Miler and Demond Brooks and…look out league.
10. CBC-They can fill if up but Winter and Fulton have to give them at least 25 each every night. That will be very tough to do.
11. Team Vida-Yes 2 wins but against teams not settled. Nothing impressive yet. Lets look again at them after week 2.
12. All-In-Revamped squad but shows summer league inexperience.
13. JCSU-Young guys have not figured out that their superior athletic ability and speed is not being utilized.
14. Bring It On-Lost to a team with only 5 players and those 5 were all guards..enough said.
15. College Stars-Just happy to be in the league.
16. Hoopforlyfe-Issues….

Player of the week
Larry Blair – Two game Average 30 pts 8 rebounds 6 assists

Defensive Player of the week
CJ Pigford – Avg 15 rebounds 3 blocks

Are you ready for week two?

POWER RANKINGS AFTER WEEK 2

1. Rosemaxx-We know about the others. But Danny Sanders is showing off too. Big showdown with Dream Chasers Sunday and Mr. Morrow.
2. Dream Chasers-Morrow will need strong performances from JC and Will Howard on Sunday. Can they each give them 20+ points in a support role?
3. Bring It On-Huge leap in the power rankings. Return of Sean Kirkland and newcomer Adam Howell make a strong backcourt.
4. Blucandy-Mack scores, Wylie Petty is a proven winner and Jay Wood does the dirty work.
5. PTP-Sean Barnette makes all the difference. Missing Brian Grier in the post this year. When will Terrell Smith come alive.
6. Team Vida-New to the league and searching for respect. Chad Frazier can score with the best of them.
7. LP Protection-Win some close ones and you lose some close ones. They will play angry after the loss to their rival this week
8. CBC-These guys play well together and play in the CBC league together. Winter gets hot and look out. Fulton can catch fire too.
9. CLI-Mike Jenkins and Titus Ivory, the backbone of this team have not seen the court together yet. Tough going being the champs.
10. All-In-Internal turmoil may exist, but when they concentrate on ball they are pretty good.
11. PCS-CJ Pigford with Brian Mobley and an appearance by Thomas Mobley and this is a team capable to winning it all.
12. BTTB-Ian Miller needs more help from cast. Good guard play but interior presence is the key.Skeen leaving hurts.
13. JCSU-Nobody within this group is happy with their play so far. They have a run in them that may come this week.
14. Charlotte Kings-Ok. Biggest team in the league but fewest points scored in the post? And can’t make free throws?
15. College Stars-Just not playing hard enough to get wins in this competitive and talented league.
16. Hoopforlyfe-Issues….but Chris will figure it out…soon…hopefully
