It is a tradition on the Mac Attack to do a phone interview on the day after the draft with the Bobcats first pick. It has been happening for years, but we have never had an interview like this. Bobcats pick Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has trouble speaking. He worked with a speech therapist at Kentucky and he has improved. And, Bobcats GM Rich Cho said he is one of the best pre draft interviews he’s ever conducted. But, he still struggles with interviews and he struggled with our interview.
But, to me he showed that toughness that he is known for on the court, today on the Mac Attack. He didn’t have to talk to us. He easily could have said I will talk at the press conference. But, like he does on the hardcourt, he gave it his best. And, for that I will always have a place for himn my heart. The city of Charlotte learned today that speaking and shooting are two things he needs to work on. But, with this kid’s work ethic and courage, do you have any doubt he will get better at both of those things? I certainly don’t.
