This Quin Is Not So Mighty
The good news is that the Bobcats have paired their head coaching candidates down to 3. So, we are closer to knowing who will take this very desirable (sarcasm alert) job. And, with pre-draft workouts scheduled for next week, soon would be nice.
The bad news is that LA Lakers assistant Quin Snyder is one of the 3 finalists. Jerry Sloan and Pacers Assistant Brian Shaw are the others. I can see the merits of Sloan or Shaw. Sure, Sloan makes Celania look like a toddler, but he can teach the game and with a young roster that would be a good quality to have. I feel like he was pretty patient in Utah the last few years with young teams. Shaw has a great reputation as an up and coming assistant in this league and he was Kobe’s choice for the LA job. He also was a part of a staff that did a great job this year in Indiana.
Snyder, on the other hand, doesn’t exactly make me think he is the coach to lead this rebuilding effort. I can’t get past his struggles at Missou, where he missed the Dance his last 3 years. It wasn’t exactly an amicable split with Missouri either when he resigned. Throw in the fact that he is a part of a fairly unsuccessful Coach K coaching tree and that he has never been a lead assistant in the NBA and you have a guy that isn’t qualified to be an NBA head coach at this time.
I am pretty sure MJ and company don’t listen to me and usually that is a good thing. But, judging by the fan reaction, don’t hire Quin Snyder. This city needs a reason to be excited about the Bobcats. They already have plenty of reasons to not be pumped about them.
