GRANITE FALLS, N.C. (AP) — Caldwell County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a sex offender they say was helping a youth baseball team.
The sheriff’s department says an anonymous tip led officers to 34-year-old Dirk Walker Monseur Jr., who was helping with a Granite Falls team of 6- to 8-year-olds.
Monseur is charged with violating state sex offender laws.
Police Capt. Brian Bennett said investigators do not think the Granite Falls man committed any crimes against children on the team.
But North Carolina law prohibits sex offenders from being anywhere intended for the use, care or supervision of minors.
Bennett said adults with ties to the Granite Falls team often take turns helping. He says a woman in a relationship with Monseur has children on the team.
It was not clear if Monseur has a lawyer.
