GREENVILLE, S.C. (CBS Charlotte/AP) — Two Greenville County residents have been arrested and charged with illegal neglect of a child after authorities found eight poisonous snakes in their home.

Sheriff’s deputies say 28-year-old Charles Daniel Dutton and 25-year-old Rebecca Dutton did not have a license, permit or certificates authorizing them to have the snakes.

Arrest warrants state the couple also did not have proper housing for the snakes.

Authorities say the couple’s 3-year-old and 2-month-old children were endangered, telling the Greenville News that the Duttons placed their kids “at an unreasonable risk of harm.”

The snakes have been taken by animal control officers.

It was not clear if the couple has an attorney. The could each face up to 20 years behind bars.
