Carolina Panther fans rejoice!  According to ProFootballWeekly.com has reported that Wide Receiver Steve Smith has agreed to a three year contract extension with the Carolina Panthers that would run through 2015.  Smith does have an option for an additional year in 2016.

The salary for the extension is not yet known, but Smith is expected to be paid over $7 million for his upcoming 2012 season.  His contract is similarly structured to that of WR Reggie Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts in terms of his guaranteed money and base salaries.

Steve Smith is expected to sign his new contract on Tuesday.

Smith is the Panthers’ all-time leading receiver, and last year he passed the 10,000 yard milestone.

The man who broke the story on the Panthers extending Steve Smith for 3 years, Eric Edholm, joined “The Mac Attack” for further details on his report.
