Deputies: Drunk Man Beat Up Handicapped Man For Playboy Magazine
YORK, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) - Charges were brought against a man who reportedly assaulted a handicapped person over a copy of Playboy.
CBS affiliate WBTV is reporting that authorities from the York County Sheriff’s Office were called to an area residence in relation to a fight.
When they arrived, they found John Edward Pack Jr., 24, in the midst of a seizure on the front porch, with visible injuries on his face and head.
When medical professionals arrived on the scene, they controlled Pack’s seizure and examined him. They found possible broken ribs, a broken eye socket and several neck injuries.
Pack reportedly told police he was attacked by Randall Keith Rumfelt, 42, who lives with Pack’s mother.
He added that Rumfelt assaulted him over a copy of Playboy.
Pack was reportedly visiting his grandmother when Rumfelt called and asked him to return to his mother’s house. When he arrived, Rumfelt said he wanted to take his copy of Playboy.
An argument ensued, and Pack hit Rumfelt. Rumfelt, who was said to be intoxicated during the incident, attacked Pack in response, causing the injuries he found by medics.
Pack’s mother, who was present during the altercation, allegedly told cops that she “took [Pack's] glasses off his face so they would not get broken during the fight.”
Rumfelt was charged with assault and battery in the second degree, and is being held at the Moss Justice Center with a $10,000 bond.
Pack’s mother was also arrested for failing to alert the authorities, and for attempting to treat Pack’s wounds herself.
