NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – An elderly woman was killed Wednesday by her own car while trying to check the mail.
WIS-TV is reporting that 83-year-old Margaret Phillips had first parked her 2006 Lincoln Town Car in the driveway of her home before going to the mailbox.
But as she checked for mail, the car allegedly rolled down her driveway and struck her.
When neighbors noticed the car on Phillips’ front yard, they alerted the authorities, who arrived and rushed her to the hospital.
She was reportedly declared dead at the Georgia Health Sciences Hospital around 7:30 p.m. that same night due to multiple trauma sustained to her body.
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office are reportedly investigating the matter further.
