Mac Attack 3/21: NBC, and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio calls in to talk about Peyton Manning, the Panthers signing of Mike Tolbert, DeMeco Ryans and DeAngelo Williams contract.
Florio isn’t convinced that the Peyton Manning contract was as lucrative as everyone is speculating-he thinks that with Manning’s injury, much of his contract is likely based on performance clauses.
“The first report was five years, 96 million,…I want to see [the deal] for myself…apparently it is 18 million for one year, and the rest of the contract can be picked up by the Broncos if he makes it through the year…at most he will get 18 million for nothing…and then after one year, it continues…”
Florio thinks that with a healthy Manning, the Broncos are a team to watch out for in the AFC West. He thinks Tebow was a driving force behind attracting Manning to Denver but believes Manning will carry the team further than Tebow ever could have.
I think the Broncos can win the division…I think they are the best team in the AFC West with Peyton Manning…they have 16 games to get ready for…people have to realize, if Tebow hadn’t done what he did…if they had just continued on the course they were on,…Peyton Manning is not attracted to the Broncos.
As for Tebow’s future in the NFL, Florio didn’t have any speculations as to where the QB would end up. He thinks the teams interested in Tebow all have different reasons for wanting the young player. He thinks Tebow Mania will potentially make him more attractive to teams hurting in ticket sales, but could drive away teams just looking to add a backup.
“The first question is, who is making the decision? Is it the Coach, the GM or the owner? From the owner’s perspective, it is great to have Tebow in town…he would fill up the stadium if he were a starter…but if he is the backup [Tebow Mania will attack you in full force]…you have to ask yourself, what do you envision doing with Tim Tebow? …Some owners will like it, some owners won’t like it, especially if you are getting Tebow to be a backup…”
