CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — At least three people are injured, and officials are surveying damage as a strong storm pushed through parts of North Carolina, including Charlotte.
Emergency officials in Mecklenburg County, where Charlotte is located, say three people were taken from a neighborhood to a hospital for treatment of injuries. No further details were immediately available on the injuries.
The storm struck across parts of northeast Mecklenburg and southern Cabarrus counties early Saturday morning, knocking down trees and pulling roofs off homes. Duke Energy reports more than 1,700 without power in those two counties.
In western North Carolina, a Cherokee County spokesman says homes and businesses suffered major and minor damage, including some in the town of Murphy, from a storm that came through Friday night. No injuries or fatalities are reported.
