BELMONT, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — Belmont police say a man repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend in the head and severed her pinky finger because his steak tasted different than hers.
According to a police report obtained by CBS Charlotte, authorities found 32-year-old Jennifer Wear “covered from head to toe with blood” after being stabbed by her boyfriend, 37-year-old Michael Nivens, on Feb. 5.
Wear told police that Nivens drank five 24-ounce beers that night and that he kept insisting that she was trying to hurt him.
While they were eating dinner, Nivens complained to Wear that his steak tasted different than hers, according to Belmont police.
Wear said that after she went to bed, Nivens came into the room telling her that he loved her and repeatedly asked her why she wanted him to die. That’s when he began pulling her hair and punching her in the face.
Wear stated that Nivens then began to continuously stab her in the head with the knife he used to cut his steak. He even sliced her left pinky off, according to the police report.
Police said that Nivens confessed to the crime. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is being held with no bond at the Gaston County Jail.
Wear was taken to the hospital for her injuries and released.
