Thomas Davis: “I Will Be Back And I Will Be Healthy Next Year”
Mac Attack 2/6/12: Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis calls in to talk about the Super Bowl, Cam Newton, and how his rehab is going.
Thomas Davis may not have gotten to play in the Super Bowl, but he definitely had a lot to say about the game and who did-and didn’t step up to the plate.
“It was definitely a great game for our league…the Patriots had a lot of opportunities at the end of the game that they didn’t capitalize on, and the Giants [definitely did capitalize on their opportunities].”
While Davis didn’t think the Patriots capitalized on all of their opportunities, he did approve of that late forth quarter call by Belichick letting the Giants score their game-winning touchdown.
“I had a Super Bowl party…and when [the Giants] got in to field goal range,…[I said] ‘They need to just let [the Giants] score’ and everyone was looking at me like ‘what do you mean, let them score?’…[I said] the [Patriots] need to let them score, get the ball back, and let [Tom Brady] see what he can do. [Brady] has won in the post season like seven or eight times on last minute drives. He’s Tom Brady, give him the opportunity…[and then] arguably the greatest coach of all time just made the same call I did, so I am like, NOW what do you think?”
Davis knows the Panthers have a lot to prove in the 2013 season-and he, like his teammates, want to be in the Super Bowl next year.
“We are putting the work in right now…it’s Super Bowl or bust next year. If you don’t take that approach, you are selling yourself short.”
Davis has suffered more than his share of injuries as a Carolina Panther-but contrary to many fans beliefs, he will be back, HEALTHY, next season.
“I like to prove people wrong in everything I do…holler at me next season when the season starts…I can say that I am pretty confident I will be a Carolina Panther next year.”
