SHELBY, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — A Shelby woman read the Bible for more than an hour to the attacker who slashed her throat.
According to a Shelby police statement obtained by CBS Charlotte, 32-year-old Lindsay Wood and her 15-year-old son just returned home from church on Feb. 1 when a man ran up from behind her and cut her neck with a knife.
The son told police that he saw a man run past him while he was outside the house retrieving trash cans. The teenage son said he ran to the side of the house and heard the man speaking to his mother.
Wood told police that as she was unlocking the door, the suspect grabbed her from behind and attacked her.
Scared of being raped or killed, Wood began reading the Bible to her attacker inside the house. She told police she read to him for an hour-and-a-half and even invited the suspect to her church.
Wood said the suspect repeatedly told her he was sorry before leaving the premises.
Wood received 25 staples to repair her wound. No arrests have yet been made in the case.
