CHARLESTON, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) — A 26-year-old South Carolina man is dead after he jumped between decks on a cruise ship in the Bahamas.

Nassau police say Walter Bouknight received serious injuries when he allegedly jumped from one floor to another on board Carnival’s Fantasy Cruise Ship Friday night. He was declared dead at the scene.

Carnival said in a statement to CBS Charlotte that it is “deeply saddened by this tragic event.

“Carnival’s CareTeam is providing the guest’s family with support and assistance during this difficult time.”

A passenger told WBTV that “you could see blood on the floor” after Bouknight jumped.

“It was easy to see what had happened,” the passenger told the station.

The ship departed Charleston, S.C., last Wednesday and returned Monday.
