Mac Attack 1/30/12: National Football Post’s Matt Bowen calls in to talk about the Senior Bowl prospects who should be on the Panthers draft radar, and why Cam Newton has changed the way NFL evaluators look at the quarterback position.
Matt think that Quinton Coples of UNC is the top DE in the draft because of his size, length, and his ability to use his hands. He also has more then one move, which goes a long way in having a productive career in the NFL. The scouts were very impressed with Coples in Senior Bowl practice, which is often a better indicator of the player then the actual game itself.
Matt thinks that Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson is a very mature kid and throws a great ball. He moves gracefully outside the pocket but lacks the arm strentght of elite quarterbacks. He thinks Russell helped himself in Mobile but his size will make him a late round pick.
Matt explains how the NFL has changed for what they look for in a Quarterback. It used be the goal to get the 6ft 5 pocket passer like Carson Palmer, now teams will for athletic, versitale Quarterbacks like Cam that can spread teams out.
