BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (CBS Charlotte/AP) — A student at Gardner-Webb University collapsed in class and died on her 21st birthday after thanking God on Twitter for living another year.

A spokesman says Ariane Noelle Patterson was in a religion class at the Boiling Springs school when she collapsed Tuesday afternoon.

Patterson tweeted that day, “Thank you God for a nother year of life.”

Spokesman Noel Manning says Patterson’s cause of death is under investigation. He says the school is investigating whether Patterson had previous health problems.

Manning says an emergency medical technician who is a student in the class and nurses helped with CPR until an ambulance arrived.

Patterson died at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

She was a senior majoring in religious studies and went to high school in Rutherford County.

and He gave her eternal life – and that more abundantly.

  • Ian

Perhaps she was killed for using the word nother

  • jarsh

    So sad.

Let this be a lesson: Don’t tempt irony.

  • Rod

This woman is now happier than she has ever been! EVER! Just by seeing the “title” of her twitter page says it all!! She has gone home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!! Praise God! My prayers are with her family and friends, but just “knowing” where she is now is really all that matters! Thank you God and thank you Jesus!

  • Michael

    Amen Larz

  • Christian

Probably for the same reason you typed “thin” instead of “think.” Why so quick to judge, let alone blame religious college as the source of her spelling mistake?

  • Seth

You misspelled the word “think” in your comment. missing a letter are ya?

  • rickey roma

Sounds like she had a serious health problem and was thanking God for another year…know she may not have many…terrible reporting, no facts, no nothing just the sensational part….poor grammar and spelling as well….glad to know our kids are being taught so well in school these days..

  • Spelling?

How do you spell “think” again? lol
    Grammar police just got busted.

  • Tim

I can’t imagine anything more boring.

  • Micah Vanella

Probably the same reason you forgot a “k” in your post. Stop being so judgmental.

  • Micah Vanella

I can: you commenting on a story that you consider boring.

  • john

    oh snap!

  • Kevin

I know, right? No one ever misspells anything while posting random thoughts online! Oh wait…

  • Shells

So let me get this straight. When someone survives a horrible disease, it’s God’s responsibility, and God is wonderful. When someone just drops over dead, it’s also God’s responsibility, and God’s wonderful? Boy, you can spin everything positively if you try! Come on, people, let’s not spend our time talking about contradictory notions that are completely unsubstantiated with facts or evidence. Let’s just appreciate this girl’s memory, and give our best wishes to her family.

  • Bill

    Agree with rickey roma.

  • Charles

Quick to judge, are we? Has not the thought crossed your mind that the typographical error is simply a media story writer mistake? Gimme a break.

  • a_lot_is_two_words

One is a type (“thin”), the other appears to be an intentional mistake (“a nother”).

No one believes you can’t spell think, alot of people might believe she mispelled another.

  • Charles

Perhaps it was not such a bad, quick, painless way to go, given a choice of alternatives. It was a liitle early, though. Tell me how you like your death. You are not going to get out of this life alive, say the latest actuarial tables.

  • urunbelievable

How utterly stupid and rude you are. Did you stop to “thin” that it could have been an editorial error? Someone typed this story, you small minded little person. Even if she made the error, it was most likely just a typo.

  • Jole

She must have thanked the wrong god.

  • Jim

    roflkartoffel = @sshole

  • KC

At least her family has hope they can see her again.

What do you have to offer?

  • Rob

Look at the Twitter screenshot. It was not an editorial typo.

  • Guys Against Women

wishes for what exactly? obviously you think that going to heaven is bad so what do you wish for her family?

  • Charles

No, God’ interference in the flow of time and space is very rare. It does happen, though. You usually only get one chance in a lifetime to see it.

  • KJC

Maybe-sometimes I do not feel quite right, I thank the Lord for another day, for there is no guarantee for another day. She may of felt there was something wrong with her health and thanked the Lord for another day.. I think we will soon know the truth God Bless Her Family!.

  • feardeathbywater

nope the paper correctly cited the post … spelling and all.

    https://twitter.com/#!/iamANP117

that’s her account … found with a simple search of he name on twitter.

  • sean patriot

I call BS on this story

  • Shells

Our wishes for their emotional healing, our support, our outreach to them and our sympathy. My hope is that the community can do something for her family – something real, something they can see and feel and appreciate, something that can actually help them with their grief. Praying to a being for which there’s no evidence does not fit the bill. By all means, if you believe in such things, do it – but don’t think it’s a replacement for actually helping these poor people. My heart goes out to them. I’ll be sending them a comforting note and basket of flowers. It’s the least I can do.

  • feardeathbywater

and yes misspellings get us all.

  • Chris Harlos

Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor?

  • Humpy Brown

    Slow day, God???

  • Epicar

Agreed. Forget Jesus – I pray to Thor. Your God was nailed to a cross. My God carries a hammer. Any questions?

lol. I’m joking of course. But hey, if you’re going to believe in things without evidence, Thor is a pretty cool choice.

  • GaoFei

I “thin” people that make spelling errors should not make comments on other spelling mistakes. Did you consider that the tweet quote may have had a space inserted somewhere along it’s the way into the story? That most tweets are made from mobile devices and some allowance should be made for “thumb factor”? Your mistake is clearly a reflection on you and not the vocational school that you attended.

She died, and you think the priority is to point out spelling mistakes and make fun of religion. What a guy.

  • I. Ronick

    Fear me, jarsh.

  • Humpy Brown

Don’t you mean Jebus?? That’s who Homer Simpson worships, and you sound like him.

  • John_B

Maybe the lesson here is to give thanks now, because you do not know when your time will come

  • GaoFei

An “intentional mistake” .LMAO. You are not firing on all cylinders today.

  • JKN

A 21 year old girl with her life in front of her dies. Yes, thank you Jesus.

  • Humpy Brown

Please, everyone, don’t DARE say, “She’s in a better place now.” In a box in the ground is a “better place”? Do people listen themselves when offering condolences?

  • Humpy Brown

    Yeah, fuc him.

  • John

    rickey roma

Sounds like she had a serious health problem and was thanking God for another year…know she may not have many…terrible reporting, no facts, no nothing just the sensational part….poor grammar and spelling as well….glad to know our kids are being taught so well in school these days..

  • John

I thank God every night. I suppose when it is my time to go, it will be just as ironic. There are worse ways to go than after praying.
    I agree with you Rick.

  • John_B

If the family shares the faith that Ariane Patterson has shown, they will be praying for you as well. Faith is just that. Keep seeking the truth and you will find it, your heart is in the right place Shells.

  • John

    And….you worship Obama?

  • fanden

There are 2 kinds of people: religious and sane. bill maher

  • I. Ronick

The “Reply” feature on charlotte.cbslocal.com’s comment section is unreliable.

  • Sam Imam

Apparently Shells is unaware that people who are religious are happier, more generous to others, and live longer than non-religious people. The family probably isn’t looking for sympathy from someone who associates religion with something that is “not real.” Science shows religion and it’s positive outcomes are very real.

  • John_B

And her faith saved her from eternal death.

  • Zeke

    Heaven is a myth.

  • Bill

It’s not really to question why God does what he does and when. It’s for us to accept his heavenly wisdom.

  • BuckeyeJRD

If you would take the time to research it yourself, you will see that there is plenty of evidence. A good starting point is the book, “Evidence that demands a verdict”. I’ll send you a free copy if you tell me where to send it.

  • erman

She was a Christian, therefore she believed that whatever we have here is given to us by God but that this isn’t our final home. When she died she probably believed that she’s gone home to be with God and that it is his will. Her job here is done.

That’s what agnostics and atheists don’t understand, dying isn’t the “end” for Christians. It’s the beginning of an eternity with Christ in complete harmony with all things. It’s sad for those here left behind like her family but they know/believe that it’s actually a coming home and a completion of a small part of her Christian life. I pray for her family and maybe for others to understand why we are all here only for a short while.

  • John_B

I doubt BM could pass a competency exam so does that make him religious?

  • sara

Humpy, you won’t be going into a “box in the ground”, honey. You won’t be going where this kid went either.

  • Lewis

Manifest ignorance expressed here by people who haven’t the slightest inkling of what they are writing. Thank you Father for the witness of Ariane Noelle Patterson, who was not ashamed to express her love and gratitude for you. She truly understood the big picture.

This young woman sincerely said what so many of us will want to before we leave this temporal life, she thanked our Savior.
Having lost our twenty year old son several years back, my prayers are with her family, as these days are brutal on the heart. While missing the love, laughter, and conversation we shared with our son, God has given grace and peace in knowing I can trust His word in the promise of the Resurrection though Christ Jesus His Son.
All of us are but a heartbeat away from eternity, and this girl, sad as it is to all who know her, is now looking into her loving Fathers face. My God grant peace to her family and friends.

  • cornflower

    I blame the liberal media.

  • Rob

Faith is not about getting what we want, faith is knowing God gives us the strength and peace to accept whatever we get.

  • Kate

John_B No it didn’t. Her faith did nothing, no more than any other god’s worshipper did a thing to help themselves after death.

We all have the same thing happen after death – nothing. sorry about reality, it has a way of happening no matter what you want.

  • Rationalist

Typo is irrelevant – suggest you morons fixated on the irrelevant fixate on eternity instead – that is, if you can do something else with your two opposing thumbs other than text or play video games all day…

  • Brother Timmy

Perhaps there is comfort in the wisdom of Brother Theodore: “The best thing is not to be born. But who is as lucky as that? To whom does it happen? Not to one among millions and millions of people.”

  • ablecynic

Kate, unless you have been there, your view is just a “hope” that there is nothing beyond the grave. Because if there is, this young woman will live in eternal bliss and you will live with eternal judgement.

  • jblaize

JKN – how do u know? serious question, btw. im not sure what i believe, so im open to being convinced

  • SammyClammyMammy

Blame God for this. It’s His fault . . . He did this to her.

  • ablecynic

God is sovereign over life and death. You didn’t choose to be born into a life in which the only way out is through death. You are here as an instrument of God’s will and your life and death will be at his discretion, not yours.

  • jblaize

    i mean KATE…not JKN

  • Steve121

Yeah, that’s why she was so thankful for another year on this EARTH — she was ready to die! Please.

  • tileguy

    Beautiful Comment Larz

  • Jeff

No evidence for our God? Were you sleeping during ancient history class? Our God walked this earth for a third of a century, claimed He was God and proved it, predicted His own death and resurrection, and then followed through with that resurrection… with over 500 witnesses. That is more than enough physical evidence for anyone except those who foolishly choose to ignore it.

  • John Svengali

God calls us all home; we are, after all, His. This life may be important. But the important one is the eternal. This girl knew that significance. I pray for the repose of her soul and easing her family’s grief. God bless and save us.

  • Mike

I find it ironic, but that’s about it, no reason to turn it into a god vs atheist debate

  • Jon Watts

See you on the other side dear girl.

  • kishke

No facts? No evidence? The world in its vast complexity is evidence! The miracle of human thought and speech is evidence? Even your sad and stunted existence is evidence. The idea that all this arose of its own accord is ludicrous on its face.

  • SACRED1

HEBE YOU WILL REMINDED OF THAT COMMENT IN HELL, MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOU

  • Epicar

Yes, and Mohammad flew to the Dome of the Rock on a winged horse, and Joseph Smith dug up golden plates, and Zeus impregnated a girl by raining on her. Stories, even once they’re written down and passed along for many years, are not evidence. And many of these stories had alleged witnesses, too. If your argument can be easily turned around to support a mutually contradictory position (i.e. another religion) then it’s not a good argument.

  • SACRED1

DONT PLAY WITH GOD YOU CAN SERIOUSLY GET BURNT, IF YO KNOW WHAT I MEAN, REPENT OF YOUR SIN AND AVOID HELL

  • Andy

Maybe the lesson here is that GOD DOES NOT EXIST!! Wake up people!!

  • Epicar

If the world’s incredible, beautiful complexity is evidence for a God, are smallpox and earthquakes and AIDS evidence against it? Look at the universe. There are undoubtedly complex and wonderful things, but there are also galaxies tearing themselves apart and horrible diseases and destruction and death. The universe is a mix of the beautiful and the ugly. You don’t get to look at one side and proclaim it’s evidence of a higher power without treating the other side the same way.

Also, the idea that God arose on its own is ludicrous on its face. Look, there has to be one thing that’s uncreated. God can be, or the universe can be. And the existence of the universe is uncontestable. Therefore, by Occam’s Razor, we don’t need to assume God until there’s some other kind of evidence. And good luck providing that – people have been trying for thousands of years and failing.

  • SACRED1

READ THE BIBLE AND GROW UP YOU JUST MIGHT LEARN SOMETHING IF YOURE CAPABLE

  • Andy

After reading this, how can you truly believe that god exists??? please comment

  • ThE ARBITER

    Well said, sir. Well said!

  • Jeff

Epicar, wake up. Apples to oranges. You can take historical facts and turn them around to support anything you want. Doesn’t change the facts. Only a fool ignores history.

  • John O

Atheism is a much better way of existence than religion. You don’t need to believe in some mythical being up in the sky to treat your fellow man with kindness and respect. Hey, a young girl died soon after thanking that mythical being for another year of life. Lets make fun of her.

  • Andy

So… We’re not our own person, God owns us?? Our lives are not as important as the one you have NO proof exists?? This girl was aware of that?? Do realize that you’re saying it’s OK that this girl died, that’s it just another day?? That’s totally disrespectful to her! If what you say is true then why don’t we all just kill ourselves?? whats the point of being here??

  • Jeff

Epicar, your biblical illiteracy is appalling. Sin (by man) entered the picture and marred God’s original ‘very good’ creation. Also, when you define God correctly, your confusion will vanish. By definition, God has no beginning, therefore He needs no cause.

  • dfgsd

kate your extremely stupid and ignorant. you better be careful about misleading people especially when you have no idea what you’re talking about. yeah keep looking at just whats at the surface. you better wake up before its too late.

  • SomeOneWhoCares

Please people, this was a sweet young lady with a family and friends. Stop with the nasty comments.

  • James

Unless she was thanking him for the one she had just lived through, rather than thanking him in advance for one that was just beginning. In which case, it’s the opposite of ironic.

  • LovesFLSun

Only in Cleveland.. What a miserable place.

  • Jeff

Why do you believe that God’s existence hinges on this article?

  • John O

So you think that religious people believe that because of G-d nothing bad is supposed to happen to good people? If you are an Atheist fine, but don’t assume to know the concept of G-d that most or even each believer holds. You could try asking the adults (not a child because the concept that you alluded to above is a bit childish) who you know are religious, “What is your concept of G-d?” I doubt that any will give you an answer that will make you a believer but you will get many different answers that are deeper and more complex than a man in the sky who will not let bad things happen to good people.

  • Nick

Sounds like she was thanking God for having lived through her 21st year, not anticipating another one yet to come. It also sounds like she may have health problems, which may also make one more thankful for each year they get to live. RIP Ariane and God Bless.

  • JOHN

Now, Saying, “nother” is using an informal version of the word. On the other hand, I read some of her other comments and she really has no idea how to operate the english language and I highly doubt she even knew the difference between “another” and ” a nother”.

  • Andy

LOL you have NO idea why we’re here! Agnostics and atheists don’t understand it because YOU HAVE NO PROOF!! We don’t understand it because it’s no different than you telling me when you die, you’ll be greeted by however many virgins. It’s insane, delusional, and ignorant to believe this nonsense! It’s a fairy tale, it’s a children’s story. I have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen to me after I die, WHY?? Because there’s no proof of what happens. Why can’t religious people accept that??? I was raised by two “faithful” christian parents, I’ve had a great life and great parenting, but since the age of 20 or so, I’ve grown to realize that WE DON’T KNOW…

  • AZD2

This life is 70 or so short years getting ready for eternity. The Lord took her after she thanked him. I’m thinking she made a good impression on Him and He called her home. I sure hope my last words are something like that. Knowing me they’ll probably be something like “oh shiiiiiiiiiit”

  • heston

Andy, could you please not bash other peoples religions online? It gives your athiest community a very bad name.

You’re right, I will get many different answers as I have asked that question to many people. Why is it that I get so many different answers?? Why do you, John O, believe in different things than Jeff?? It’s DELUSION. I’m not Atheist, I’m agnostic. I’ve accepted the fact that I have NO idea what’s out there, how we go here, or what is after death. Why can’t you accept that?? If your beliefs have been proven then there wouldn’t be thousands of different belief systems, don’t you understand this???… And why God?? why can’t it be a million more years advanced aliens??… or some parallel universe, that when we die we just enter another universe?? There’s an infinite amount of reason why we’re here, so why do you chose God as your explanation?

  • B

Ahh the trolling atheists show themselves. Take a look at your comments, and wonder no longer why no one in this world takes you seriously or trusts you farther than they can throw you.

  • Jeff

Heaven is a myth? Really? Jesus mentioned it often. That would be the same Jesus who claimed to be God, predicted His death and resurrection… and then carried out His resurrection. So… I have heaven’s existence on the authority of the Creator of heaven and earth. On whose authority do you claim it’s a myth?

  • saved1

Ok idiots, she wasn’t thanking God for the year of life ahead of her. She was thanking Him for the year that she was given. It is sad to see a life end at such a young age, but there is a plan for us all. “For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” -Romans 14:8

  • Andy

Last I checked, it’s childish to believe in Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy, so how is believing in God any different?

  • A believer

It reinforces my belief. We all have an appointment. We usually unconciously know it too. How many times have we heard stories like this where a child draws a picture of an angel ascending into heaven on the day she dies in a wreck. Or the mother reconciles with her kids a day before she has a stroke.Often people get their affairs in order to their own puzzlement.

  • Openyoureyes

You religious folks are terrible at putting together a sentence. To boot, most of you are terrifyingly & horrendous spellers.

Man made myths have just as much credence as a Soap Opera magazine.

  • Blah

I think you’d want people to assume you went to heaven when died, regardless. Assuming someone went to heaven means you have good thoughts of that person, It sounds like you’re a real a-hole and everyone will assume you went to hell – even if neither exists.

I keep waiting to come upon a Rolex just buried in the dirt that by shear accident formed that exact way right there, but I never will because a watch of that magnitude or any for that matter has a designer and was created that exact way for a reason just as we have a designer and were created the way we are for a reason.

The only difference between an Atheist and a Theist is the one god that they believe…you discount all the others.

I also find it rather disgusting that people here are treating life like it’s just another expendable resource.

Remember what life was like before you were born? Oh wait, that’s a nonsensical question. You didn’t exist. Same as after you die. It’s pretty intuitive with you use reason instead of iron age myths.

Everyone has there opinion and we are all different living our journeys in this world but can you really imagine just dying and thats it there has to be more you have your views but people fear what they dont understand yes i believe in an after life i have had my own proof and evidence and no im not deluded you only see what you want to see just look at the bigger picture it goes beyond open your minds and not tunnel vision may God Bless her her time was up.

  • Reverend Justito

I guess God was busy answering Tim Tebow’s prayers and not reading her Twitter feed. It happens.

  • greg

Faith is belief without knowledge. You don’t ‘know’ anything, you just wish real hard for it to be real. Who says this wasn’t Thor’s will? After all, he’s got a hammer, and your god was nailed to a cross.

  • Andy

We unconsciously know it??? How do you consciously know that we unconsciously know it??? It’s coincidence, and we hear about it because IT’S A COINCIDENCE! How many times do think a child draws a picture of an angel ascending into heaven and DOES not die that day?? My point by asking “how could you believe in God after reading this?” is how can you justify the extremely and boldly hateful act that “God” just committed by taking away a girl’s life after she thanked him for having life?? To me, it’s a coincidence, but you as a “believer”, must have an answer… if you don’t have an answer then you’re misguided.

  • Andy

You’re right Jeff, God’s existence is a possibility, so I’ll ask again… Why do you chose God as your explanation over an infinite amount of explanations????

  • Elizabeth brown

People should look at themselves and stop judging less you be judged i make spelling mistakes all the time so what it dosent mean theres something rong with me it is simply a many mistakes life is more important and who we are

  • Robert Cat

You call it a “miracle” when someone dies that young? There’s the perversion that is religion.

Only somone with warped view of life would see that as a good thing.

Deram on, all ye whose trial date is rapidly approaching . . . I guess you’ll be really PO’d when you find you’ve been resurrected to account for your life.

  • Justin C Kase

I will pray for all of you God haters spewing your self righteous rhetoric above. While it is indeed a human tragedy that this young woman passed with so much left to live and experience it is a personal victory for her soul. As for your pontifications attempting others and more importantly yourselves that god does not exist, I truly pity your narrow views and spiritual blindness. I truly will pray for your salvation, one and all.

  • breanna

    Amen.

  • george

God was apparently too busy looking after Tebow. NOT!

  • Elizabeth brown

Its nothing to do with religion truth is God is and always will be end of .

  • Anon

    @Jeff
No, only a fool props up myth as fact.

Those other creation stories are just as “viable” as your.

Funny how there’s no archaeological evidence to support your claim that a magic jew was cloning fish, healing various diseases, zombifying and flying up to an undetermined location in the vacuum of space to “heaven”.

There’s also no contemporary scholarship referring to”Jesus” either…sorry, but you have your work cut out for you if you want to dig of evidence for this…

  • Andy

Sounds like I can get “burnt” even if I praise him and thank him for having a life… So I’ll just continue to go about my REAL life knowing he’s now there, thanks…

I am certainly glad you are so positively sure.
Tell me, how did you come by such comprehensively exhaustive knowledge of the universe?

Wait and see these garbages will die on the stages or on the work place when they are writting garbages

  • GAlanJag

Learn your bible. In the Old Testament you had the Covenant of Works where through good works you earned your way into heaven. Christianity (New Testament) believes in a Covenant of Grace, whereby if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, through his grace, you may enter heaven.

  • God is logical

jblaize – the very heart of Christianity is determining for yourself, was Jesus, God? The man – Jesus: it is easy to find proof (other than the Bible) he was a real man from history, and that he died on a cross. The question you must answer is, did that man really get up out of the grave 3 days later? If He did, He was no man, He was God, doesn’t matter if it happened 2 days ago, or 2,000 years ago. How do you find proof? Look at the evidence that still exists today: take a serious look at the earth, could a random explosion really produce it? Use logic, the odds of that happening are longer than 1 person winning every lottery on earth on the same day. Moral laws; if we evolved (Darwin) the only rule that works is the strong survive, but everyone in the world thinks torturing children is bad. Where did that come from, a “moral law giver”. What about not being able to see “the invisible force in the sky”, you cant see gravity either, doesn’t make it less of a force. The Bible is 30% prophecy (God telling the future) of that 30% – 80% has been fulfilled exactly as God stated, including the fact Israel would again become a nation as happened in 1948 (Ezra made this prophecy over 3,000 years prior) No other religious book can make this claim of prophecy. You are asking the question because God put the question in every human heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “he has set eternity in the hearts of men”). jblaize – download the audio book from i-tunes Mere Christianity ($5) (get the Geoffry Howard reading), by C.S Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia guy), or pick up the book. The first 4 books of the New Testament are the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), they are just 4 guys, each wrote a biography of Jesus… that is all they are, just the story of the life of Jesus, birth until death… Mark is the fastest, John the most emotional… read one. Pray (it’s not superstition, God listens, there is no special language or format, just talk to him like he is a regular guy with HUGE power and smarts) to God to reveal himself to you, but do it from your heart. Finally find a good church, one that only teaches from the Bible (meaning non-denominational… not Catholic, or Episcopal, or Lutheran…) James Macdonald (Walk in the Word) has a good network of Churches, or Calvary Chapel.com has a great network of Churches (if neither of those 2 has a church near you, call them and ask if they will help you find a church that teaches and preaches close to your home). Just like God exists in the supernatural world, so does the devil, he is real. The devil doesn’t have to turn you into a bank robber to get you into hell, he just has to create enough distractions to keep your eye off of God. Because the one way into heaven is not through “living a good life”, or doing more good things than bad things… it is through believing Jesus was/is God, then asking him for forgiveness for past sins, and repenting (changing the way you have lived in the past). Then start living without fear (this truly happens).

  • Sydney

Agree with you, Klaus. To the disbelievers, I tend to think “as you believe so shall it be” (for your own self). Our time in this world is but a blink or less in the big picture. May this young woman be resting in peace and her family comforted during this difficult time.

  • Jeff Roe

Good luck with all of that.

Quick atheists run, don’t walk, to insult everyone else’s faith. Your omniscience is humbling.

  • jncarlos007

I like reading replies by atheists. they are amusing.
They assume to understand the Bible,
assume to understand the beginnings of the universe,
assume that since they hold their particular religious conviction that everyone else is stupid
They assume a scientific perspective for a philosphical question.
They assume a great many things, and provide hours of amusement

  • Santino Vannozzi

@ Greg, everything in this universe that we have found follows the same pattern over and over. Life, Death and Rebirth, what makes you so sure that once the shell is empty, that the soul doesn’t follow the same pattern?

  • jncarlos007

Only intelligent comment here so far

  • William

So if life and death is gods will does that mean murderers are just gods puppets fullfilling his will? The ggod christian against abortion are they fullfilling gods will or is the person performing the abortion If life and death and when it happens is all gods will how do you know who is right and wrong ? what gives you the autority over other to saay so. Is it good will to bring life to millions of African kids just for them to die live a short suffering, starving life. Seriously Think about that. I bet you still come up with some insane explination To justify these things to yourself

Do you believe in a planet made entirely of diamond?
You do if you read the news story that said they found one.

But would you have believed it the day before?

So simply because you have not run across evidence of a particular thing it must not exist?
    Why?
Because it isn’t what you want you don’t believe it?

  • Jake

Only Ironic if you do not understand that there is more than this temporary physical life. Physical life will one day be permanent; just with God or apart from HIM. Corey seemed to understand this. And with the way the world is heading everyone needs to come to terms with this because with the temporary is over and the permanent(eternal) starts, No one will like to be apart from God.

I love all the “Western Taliban” quotes and slogans- no one questions why ALL the religious wars and genocides are perpetrated by the 3 murder religions of the same region?
Anyone that believes in suffering now for a cosmic zombie paradise is mentally ill and should be treated for that delusion.
Pathetic- the terrorists on all sides of those religions won after 9-11

Ya’ll ain’t gonna convince the non-believers by fussin with them. They ain’t got the ears to hear. Live your life, be an example and leave the rest up to God. When their hearts are opened then it’ll be time to talk. We have a sayin in the South…”Don’t roll in the mud with a pig, you’ll get dirty and they’ll have all the fun.” I believe it is a watered down version of not casting your pearls before swine. Be safe out there now…ya hear.

  • gma04

    Is He really??? YOUR God?????

  • OttoZeit

@Andy — “knowing he’s now there . . .”? I think you meant “NOT there.” That’s not really a “Freudian” slip, so I guess it would be a “Jehovian” slip!

Copy and paste a single comment where an Atheist has made fun of this girl.. They might mock her and your beliefs but I have not seen a single comment that makes fun of this girl. Atleast they are not making her life out to be unimportant. Also you failed to give an answer to the comment Andy left you , instead you waited a while and came back with this pathetic attack. I though Christian people where suppose to be loving and save the rest of us? All I ever read from christian folk is hate. YOUR DOING IT WRONG.

  • banez

how do you know physical life will be permenant? is there someone on this planet that cannot die? any animal that will not die? how do you know if god exists? have you seen, touched, smelled, tasted, or heard him? I havent. how do you know if a soul exists? have you seen one? where does it exist? if it is inside of me then why cant we measure it or see it with infra red. if it exists not in this universe then how can you know it exists? if its not in this unverse then its not in me, then how is it mine. if it exists in this universe then were can i see one?

  • banez

@gma04 mike doesnt have to prove god does not exist. by making the claim that it does exist you have to prove it. So to you. Please prove it. Where can i meet god? when have you seen him. show me a picture. where does he live? how do you know he lives there? have you been. what evidence do you have of this place?…. there is no evidence of “god”

religion is a belief. a belief is something someone holds as true with out sufficient evidence. ” i BELIEVE i left my car keys on the table, but I dont know for certain because i dont remember correctly and dont have evidence where i left it. But i KNOW they are in the state of california because i live there.” a belief in god is like saying “I believe in god but i dont have any evidence to support that it exists. I only have a belief, i dont know for a fact, because if i knew for a fact i wouldnt call it a belief, and i could present evidence of its existence” If i tell you i have a pet leprechaun, and I know it is real then i damn well better have evidence of it, not just a belief that it exists.

Some of these “advances” include archaeology. Many biblical sites have been discovered and uncovered – EXACTLY where the bible says they are ( even after 2000 yrs). BTW, I believe you should omit “&” between the words terrifyingly and horrendous, I imagine this is included in how you put together a sentence. As for proof reading your comment —you have one too many of the word “is”.

re: Man made myths……..man’s OWN opinion, is merely that.

Ah dfgsd spew that hatred for anyone that doesn’t believe exactly what you do! that is the core of any religion – persecute and destroy anyone that doesn’t follow exactly what you do.

It is written: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 3:15

jblaize – “the very heart of Christianity is determining for yourself, was Jesus, God? If He did.” If he did, he really wasn’t dead when they took him down from the cross, he was merely unconscious. Many people have come back from the dead. Live people used to be buried so often, they used to have strings in coffins, so if people came back to life, they could let others know. People can pass out from pain or shock. They didn’t have machines back then to tell if someone was brain dead. Nor did they know how to take a pulse.

“Look at the evidence that still exists today: take a serious look at the earth, could a random explosion really produce it? Use logic, the odds of that happening are longer than 1 person winning every lottery on earth on the same day.”

That might be true if there were only one universe. But there are a near infinite number of universes. The law of large numbers say the highly imporbable becomes certain when every combination and permutation is real.

“Moral laws; if we evolved (Darwin) the only rule that works is the strong survive,”

That is Social Darwinism. not Dawinism. Loving-kindness, mutual coroperation allow us all to survive. United we stand, divided we fall. Life is not a zero-sum game. We don’t need God to tell us torturing an innocent child is evil. If you need God to tell you this, you are morally depraved.

“Everyone in the world thinks torturing children is bad. Where did that come from,”

It comes from empathy, and the intellectual realization if we are cruel to those who are weak and helpless, others who are stronger than us will be cruel to us. We understand that we can’t expect others to treat us kindly, unless we treat others kindly. Reciprocity is a mathematical concept, not a moral concept. Loving kindness and mutal cooperation evolved because they both bestow evolutionary advantages. If we fight and kill each other, we both die. Those who like to fight and kill have a lesser chance to pass on their genetic DNA, because those who live by the sword, die by the sword.

“What about not being able to see “the invisible force in the sky”, you cant see gravity either, doesn’t make it less of a force.”

We can see and feel gravity. Its existence can be demonstrated. We used our knoweldge of gravity and the universe to land on the moon, to heal the sick. There is zero evidence for any supernatural force in the sky. Science explains nearly all natural phenomenon, which is pretty good since real science is only a few hundred years old.

“The Bible is 30% prophecy (God telling the future) of that 30% – 80% has been fulfilled exactly as God stated,”

The prophecy in the bible has not been any more accurate than the prophecy of most psychics. The young always rebel against the old. There have always been wars, faminine, natural disasters, earthquakes, disease, and death. It doesn’t take much of a prophet to make vague generalizations about such common occurances.

“Pray (it’s not superstition, God listens,”

Prayer is a supersitition. Atheists who have no one praying for them have the same rate of recovery from cancer and every disease as those who believe in God, who have an entire congregation praying for their health. The poor would be much better off if humans spent less time praying for God to help them, and more time actually helping the poor. When a poor person goes to someone who just spent hours praying to God to help the poor, they get no help.

“Just like God exists in the supernatural world, so does the devil, he is real.”

The devil is real. In science the devil has a name. The human archipallium is the Devil. The human archipallium is an amoral beast that pursues pleasure, becomes angry, desires sex, food, and rock n’ roll. Sometimes our archipallium makes us do things we really don’t want to do. We are egosyntonic with our neopallium. When people drink alcohol, they anesthetize their neopallium, allowing their archipallium greater freedom and expression.

“Because the one way into heaven is not through “living a good life”, or doing more good things than bad things… it is through believing Jesus was/is God,”

If there is a just and moral God, he would not reward people simply for believing in him, for following him like lackies follow a powerful tyrant to get reward and avoid punishment. If there is a just and moral God, he would only reward people who did good for its own sake, and avoid evil because evil is bad. If there is a God, He created Christianity as a test. Those that believe in Christianity believe in a God that is arbitary and caprcious, that rewards people simply for blind faith, obediance, and doing good for reward, and not doing evil to avoid punishment. If there is a God, He will certainly condemn all Christians to burn in Eternal Hell for having such a blasphamest view of Him. Christians think God is really this stupid creature who wants humans to worship him, and have blind faith in him. The Christian God was created in the image of a petty human tyrant with an inferiority complex, who needs others to worship him. A moral God would only want humans to worship His values
and His morals, that is all a moral God would care about. He would have no need for personal worship. He would rather humans engage in self-sacrafice helping others, than spend time worshipping HIm.

Greg’s right. There is no god. There is no heaven. There is no hell. There’s no fairy godmother. There is no easter bunny or a santa clause. It’s a story told by ancient people to explain things they could not and control the population of near savages. When you die, that’s it. There is nothing more. Nor should there be. So if you want immortality you may want to do it now before it’s too late.

YOUR’E GOING TO HELL MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOU.

Well if I went to hell I’d say that the whole mercy thing just walked out the door with your wallet and comic books. So if god is supposed to be merciful and his only son died on a cross for everyone’s forgiveness, how can any of us go to hell? We’re already forgiven aren’t we? It’s not my book but I clearly remember reading about 300 different passages concerning how much god is supposed to love us and how jesus came to get us fixed up. Yeah, good job.

It takes more faith to believe that there isn’t an afterlife, be it in heaven or hell. It takes more faith to believe that this all was just created over billions of years, rather than believing in an intelligent creator.

I cannot convince those of you who sneer and don’t believe. I just know that Jesus is real. He’s loved me and taken me far in life, and shown true love. He speaks to us still: in quiet moments, when we do wrong, or when we seek answers.

Seriously, gumby? We can measure the wind with an anemometer. We can see the effects of wind, especially with things like hurricanes and tornadoes. We can also prove that the wind exists through solely scientific means (differences in air pressure, etc.). Can you say the same about a god or gods?

Some people are beyond the pale, now she’s truly living. she had a faith in her Creator. For you folk who don’t believe, you got to have a little faith, then He’ll respond and make Himself real to you. He has me. “Draw near to me and I will draw near to you” That’s how it works.

She is dead. Hopefully she did something that people will reflect potitvily as it pertains to her life.

As for the wind analogy. Any 9th grader can explain to you that the “wind” is measurable. I can blow up a balloon and let the balloon go and you can see the wind moving the object.

No, not everything follows a pattern in existence. However to clear up your point, according to the quantum something can come from nothing. Also, if that is your ultimate point, how can nothing come from something.

You people are arguing as if “death” is the opposite of “life”. Not everything is viewable in “duality”.

You people also probably think that “darkness” is an actual, measurable thing as well. You probably think that “darkness” is the opposite of “light”. That is very false.

“Darkness” is the “absence” of light. You can measure light all you want, but you cannot measure “darkness”. There is no dual view of light. There is nothing the “opposite” of light.

Same as heat. You can not measure “cold”, as “coldness” is the absence of heat. You can measure heat all you want, and the “absence” of it is the temperatures we read everyday, but you cannot measure “cold”. There is no “duality” to temperature.

So if there are many things in our universe that have no “duality” and we attempt to view infinite concepts from a very finite point of view, then why do you even attempt to claim that there is or is not something “after death”. Death is simply the “absence of life” as we know it. “As we know it” is the key phrase. You cannot measure death, you cannot define it, you cannot predict it, you cannot attempt to explain it. So stop trying.

Anything that people believe about life and death is based on faith – regardless of how you view the “afterlife”. If you think there is “nothing” after death, then you take that concept on faith, because you cannot prove it – you simply believe it.

Same thing if you believe you go to “heaven” or “hell” after life. You believe on those concepts based on faith, because you can neither defend it, nor prove it – You simply believe it.

  • NCMike

Given that a presumably intelligent clerk at a fast food drive-in cannot consistly fill a simple order correctly, it is beyond mind boggling that presumably intelligent people would believe that simply by dumb-luck happenstance, an organism would evolve from a uni-cellular beginning to a multi-cellular creature with discrete, integrated organs, coordinated as systems that enable it to breathe, think, move, and reproduce itself. To imagine that an eyeball coordinating external observable sensations manifested as light waves can be channeled into chemical/electrical responses and transmitted to a separate organ, the brain that can reassemble external impulses into a visual and intellectual image of the same, is the result of evolving “luck” rather than an intelligent design, is stupifying. And then these self-same childishly simple “lucksters” then pat themselves on the back because they fool themselves into believing that their fantasies are somehow more credible than “religious belief”. Now that’s stupid.

Doesn’t seem like a good thing to us, but as a Child of God this woman received the greatest birthday present ever! Instantly transported into the presence of God. May He comfort the families and friends, but its not a cliche to say that she is much better off now.
A couple of years ago, on a Sunday morning we had just become the praise and worship portion of our church service. Not two minutes into the first song, a choir member fell out, in mid-verse. Doctors and nurses were in attendance but there was no saving her as she had had a massive stroke and died right there.
Imagine one moment you are singing God’s praises, then the next moment there you are in the presence of The One you are singing about, in Paradise!

    BTW…That was hilarious Magnum!

I’m sorry that, because of your beliefs, you feel it necessary to pray for us atheists and our lost souls. If by omniscience, you mean that atheists must know everything to not believe in God, then I submit that atheism is the default position one must take when one does not know if a god exists or not. Without any reason to accept or evidence for the existence of a deity, one should call themselves an atheist.

@Sheila: not the Catholic Church despite the propaganda. Someone above said life and death is god’s will he decides when we enter this earth and when we depart it and everything happens because it is god’s will/part of his divine plan , and all those who said god has taken her home. So forget the debate about proving god exists lets for argument sake say a god exists can you in your right mind as a believer answer my questions . The person that made this statement failed to answer my question. Let’s see how many Christians actually believe this and wish to give a rational answer?

    Q.
If life and death is god’s will does that mean that murderers are just gods puppets fulfilling his will? A child born from a mother a victim of brutal rap? The good Christian that protests against abortion are they fulfilling gods will if they save a child or is the person performing the abortion? After all if the child dies then that was always gods will? The Catholic Church says contraception is a sin but what if all those kids born from not using it are not part of god’s plan? Basically what is the point of praying, if it gods will he will make it happen anyway. prayer or not,
If life and death and when it happens is all god’s will or part of his divine plan then how do you know who is right and wrong? What gives you the authority over other to say so? Is it god’s will to bring life to millions of African kids just for them to live a short life of starvation, pain and HIV ? Seriously? Before you reply take a few moments to think about your answer. Can you answer those question? And if so what do those answers say about your religion . I bet you still come up with some insane explanation To justify these things to yourself.

@chris. you said “Anything that people believe about life and death is based on faith – regardless of how you view the “afterlife”. If you think there is “nothing” after death, then you take that concept on faith, because you cannot prove it – you simply believe it.”

if i “think” there is nothing after death it is because there is no evidence that there is anything after death. Also you are twisting the absence of a belief into a belief. For me to say I do not believe in life after death is not the same as affirmitively saying there is no life after death. TO say there is non is a positive truth statement that cannot effectively be proved. So it is entirely valid to say that there is no evidence for life after death and i do not believe there is life after death is perfectly legitimate, and is not a belief. dont try to put them in the same mold. Also what is the effective measure for non-existence? I would say that there is no evidence of something. Thus far there is ZERO evidence that death leads to a new life. So it is also fair to say that there is no life after death because there is no evidence to support it…

For example how do you know leprechauns dont exist???? based on your statement you can never know that leprechauns dont exist. its an unprovable statement, but the fact is there is no evidence of leprechauns, and thus they dont exist. that make sense?

To all of you atheists out there… be careful… if you really do convince us Christians that there is no God, that there is no eternal reward or punishment, so ultimately no right or wrong (ah ah, you can’t have it both ways) why on earth should we come rape, pillage, and destroy? Because if there is no good or evil (and surely there cannot be with a Creator who establishes such a thing) then let’s get the party started, right? You might not fare as well as you think in the New World Order.

Seriously, it takes more faith to believe your ridiculous notions.

  • Jimbo Limbo

@Nigel the guy’s name who originated the quote that Magnum used is Jack Handey. It appeared on TV, on SNL, in a feature called, “Deep thoughts, by Jack Handey.” Phil Hartman narrated the opening and closing of each “deep thought.” Hartman’s wife shot him to death in 1998, bit his last credited SNL work was in 1996, so this was written and shown on TV closer to twenty years ago. I doubt that Jack Handey would have been allowed to take credit so publicly, if it was not his own quote. You can find a bunch of his Deep thought on Hulu. Interesting. Give us an example rebirth, and please don’ t confuse rebirth with offspring, birth, dormancy, or conception – those all are what they already are. Rebirth is a myth, the cycle of life is a timeline from beginning to end.

  • William

Yeah I have heard the whole free will argument many times I get that. My question was regarding the births and deaths of people and are they gods will? a question you completely ignored. And if God says judge not lest ye be judged well Christian people are the most judgmental angry people I have ever met. Standing with placards outside abortion clinics shouting abuse at rape victims wanting to abort their child. Telling everyone who does not believe as they do that they are going to hell. These people sound more like Judge jury & executioner.

But back to my question? I did not ask why god allows murder, therefore I do not need the free will argument. So try answering the real questions

Oh and I do love how you know that god loves to hear from you I missed that part of the bible. But again you must be yet another authority on the bible. You have no evidence to back up that statement I mean really YOU come on man catch a grip.

Yeah and not so long ago the church thought that if you travel far enough in any direction that you would fall of the edge of the earth and that out planet was the centre of the universe. Give it time we are always learning and rather stick with one idea that holds no evidence to back it up science continues on humbly. Let’s think about this. It’s understandable that, if she has a serious health problem which represents an ongoing threat to her life, that she would thank God for living another year of life. Such thanks is also only expressed on birthdays (or the New Year). If you think about it it’s inevitable that this ironic confluence of events would occur; in fact, I imagine it to be a regular occurance.
I hope her last year of life was a blessing to her and to those she knew.

@Andy-I don’t think you ever answered my question.
I said in my initial comment that “if you are an Atheist fine.” I think that that is indicative of me not of me accepting whatever your belief is.
I never said that my beliefs are proven. Where did you get that idea from?
Nice rant about aliens and all but apparently you are intent on accepting a childish notion of G-d that is similar to that held by a 9 year. You ask, “And why G-d?” Why G-d indeed. That is a very good question to ask. I ask are you looking at the question with the conception of G-d as a giant being who sits up in the clouds on a throne not letting bad things happen to good people or with a conception of G-d as something more complex. Either way you may come away not believing in G-d but if you view G-d with the latter conception you would realize why your original question is so inane.

I find it very funny that non-believers are so bothered that people believe in God. They want us to “prove” God to them – that’s not our job. I know God exists – period. We don’t owe you any explanations for our beliefs. If you don’t believe, that’s unfortunate..if you don’t even want to listen and only choose to be hostile, well, God tells us not to throw our pearls before swine. But since you don’t “believe” in God or anything he has to say – this shouldn’t bother you. Carry on.

Its sad to hear she died. And its quite possible she had a medical condition which led to it, which would also explain her thanking God. The Atheists attempting to draw scorn to this are pitiful and I doubt the family appreciate the anti-religion attacks against her. The majority of people that influenced our planet positively were religious. They might not have been mainstream religions at the time, but they almost all declared themselves of one religion or another. Einstein, Franklin, Newton, and on and on all stated their belief in a higher power. What does that say about the atheists that have not nearly the insight these men did?

Yes my heart aches knowing that such a wonderful person is no longer here with me, but I have to rejoice in the fact that she got the birthday wish she had always wanted. In high school she would ask people what they thought Heaven was like and she would get so excited and say she wished she knew. I can absolutely say that Ariane is in heaven worshiping and singing and having the best birthday party out there on the streets of Gold. Since her passing her spirit still carries the same love and joy for Christ, I know of many people who dedicated their lives to the Lord that same day. God had a plan for Ariane just like he has a plan for all of us, Ariane will always be remembered as a woman who LOVED God and wanted everyone to know the love she knew through her poetry, songs, rap’s, and witnessing. I love you Ari!!! You will always be in my heart forever, I am truly blessed to have known you. #PrayersForAriane

Really Nate… lets just talk facts with your non-religious dictators. By best estimates: Mao – 45M, Stalin 20M + 2M for Ukraine famine, Hitler 5M, Pol Pot 2-4M, just to name a few. Can you do a rough estimate on how many where killed in the bible and the Spanish inquisition and the crusades? Of course to normalize the numbers for comparison, you probably need to obtain the rate…. like Stalin’s 40M over his 29 yr reign vs deaths on bible over 2000 yrs?

@TerranRich: perhaps in your infinite wisdom, yes wind can be measured…. but thats not what I said. I said “seen” as in visual, with your eyes. Because I was replying to JES who said “You assume there is a soul. I’ve never seen anything to convince me of any such thing.” So please read the context before you show off with your intellectual prowess.

that explains alot! you rely on Google for your information. Crack the bible open, you might learn more than you’d expect

Mike, you are actually correct. There is nothing that can substitute for real life experience. As a hospital RN, in a busy Med-Surg ward, I had, many times, the opportunity to usher out, with a hug, or a hand-hold, or gentle words of “its OK to go now” our dying folk. Many are afraid to be alone at that time. One time, a lady named Anna, who was much touted by her family as a devout Christian, passed on under my watch, on a VERY busy no-time-for-nonsense day, and it was up to me to ‘pronounce’ her. OF course, I was in a hurry to do so, but some things you cannot hurry. LONG story short: in applying the doppler to Anna’s carotid artery to check for a pulse, since there was no palpable pulse in her periphery, it was my DISTINCT pleasure to hear the voice of a woman, as though she were walking along a path, singing. Annoyed, I stood up, pulled the doppler from my ears, and turned to shut off the tv, or radio- whatever, But, of course, there was nothing on, and now I heard nothing but silence. So, back to my work I went. Doppler again at the carotid, again I hear sounds, but this time, it is two voices, both women, as though they were talking. Again, I am annoyed, as it was loud enough to interfere with my attempt to hurry this along; after all, she had several people around the corner outside the room at the nurses’ station, waiting for me to tell them! Doppler off, I go to the door, thinking there is someone with it ajar, standing there peeking in- so I actually jerk the door opened, ticked-off, (it was closed, BTW) -but, no-one there. So, BACK again, get it DONE, right?! Listening again; now, I hear the two women’s voices through Anna’s carotid, only with a male voice also talking with them. At this point, my throat went dry, and I broke into a sweat, because I FINALLY had to admit to myself that the sounds were coming from the definitely-deceased woman. It was as though there was a hand over their mouths in that I could not make out their words, but could hear their tones quite clearly. I have never felt the same as I did before that day, concerning faith or death or dying, or especially, GOD. IF the point that we are NOT dead when we die, but only our bodies, as was now very obvious to me, then it was quite likely that all the rest of the information I had received from the Bible as a girl was likely very true as well, only, now I didn’t have to have faith. I KNOW!. For those of you who think there was a radio planted under her by family or something, no; I had to turn her left-behind body more than once to dc her tubes and caths, and there was nothing in the bed with her that could have created those sounds, not even close. Its real, and Anna and now, Ariane,is now back into a blissful, peaceful state. There wasn’t a smidgen of a trace of tension in her voice when Anna was on her way. What a happy, peaceful sound it was to hear her spirit sing. And sadness for any of you who think you know everything there is to know or to prove in the universe we are in. That would be prime arrogance, methinks.

  • Wow – Athiest need some alone time with a bottle of jergens

Why are Athiest so angry about the concept of God? When my niece tells me that Santa Cluase is going to shoot down the chimney and bring her presents I rarely break into a violent tirade of physics and geometry tearing her beliefs apart. I simple say, “thats nice honey, I hope he brings you nice stuff” Why cant athiest just say “thats nice Mr. Muslim/Jew/Christian, enjoy the afterlife”?

  • bumpkin

What do they call that? Oh, I think I heard it called “raptured” somewhere in the past. However, I have no opinion on that. -Just that everything is possible if one is not the sole controller of the universe. As long as I am not the one in charge, there is more possible than I can imagine, since I am relatively SURE I did not create any of this with the exception of a few children, which is magnificent enough (for the non-pro-choicers) and a garden here and there by planting a seed that I did not create,- and since my imagination is daily stretched to new depths..

Oh, Sid, Sid, Sid. (below) No, GOD isn’t giving free pass to everyone no matter what they do, and HE DOES love us. but like the excellent PARENT HE is, He’s NOT going to spoil you and treat you just like your kind-hearted, helpful brother. No. I cannot help but wonder if you are living under a parent who has spoiled you here in Earth-school. GOD has no teacher’s pets. We all graduate on our own merit, and we cannot graduate at all if we do not humble ourselves. Who would want a spoiled brat in Heaven, anyway? Um, we have to ASK for forgiveness, if we are humble enough.

  • bumpkin

To have good, one must have ‘un-good’ to compare it with, or one cannot tell if something is good or not good. If there were no opposites, it would just ‘be’, and nothing to gauge intensity or brightness of spirit with. Opposites are a necessary part of the universe, and it all is tied into our having freedom of choice, and accountability for our choices. IF we have to have freedom of choice, -and we do, to be in accordance with the plan laid out for us in the collection of books called the Bible, and in logic itself, then we must be able to choose either good or bad, up or down, right or wrong, high or low, evil or fineness of character. Therefore, opposites MUST exist.

There are perfectly logical explanations for how most things came to be nowadays. There’s no need anymore to go around attributing things to the supernatural when we can just observe what is in front of us.

I don’t see that all have eternal life from the Bible. The Bible clearly states that the wages of sin is death, but the “GIFT” of God is eternal life. The disciples understood that this only comes through Jesus. “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life”. God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not PERISH, but have eternal life. So, I see that there are two paths, one leads to death, the other to eternal life. To top it off, in 1st Timothy 6, it is stated that God alone is immortal. Any immortality we may have is conferred upon us, as a gift, from God, at the pleasure of his Son.

  • tm49

It seems like something is missing from this story, like the general health of this girl. In general, 21 year olds do not thank God, or anyone, for “another year of life,” unless they are very sick. Sure, it’s possible a very religious healthy girl might thank God for another year, but that is not clear from this story.

  • Nuff Said

B – I am a militant atheist (and a vegan and a marxist, but that’s not relevant here) and I think it’s pretty sick to make twisted jokes about a girl who dies, regardless of what she did or did not say about a deity the rest of us do or do not believe in.

I would, however, like to suggest the line editor for this article is a sick s.o.b. who clearly knew a headline like that would generate a deluge of these types of bitter comments. The sad thing is, merely reporting that a young girl died on her 21st birthday doesn’t generate page views and a headline on The Drudge Report.

    Lament that.

  • Cool

Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Elizabeth. Here’s one for you – “speach is a vehicle for thought.” Chew on that one for awhile.

  • Odin

I don’t know why this girl died this way. But for any of us, christians, atheists or whatever you are, to claim to know why or why not this happened is stupid. Christians, doesn’t the bible preach modesty? Surely you can’t know for certain that this is God’s will. No man can know the ways of God the Bible says (or something along those lines), and wouldn’t for you to so arrogantly claim to know for certain this was the will of god violate the modesty God wants you to have?
And for the atheists, it applies for you too. You can’t know that this wasn’t God’s will. So please don’t bash on people’s religion.
All I’m saying is that we can’t know for certain, so stop arguing this like it’s a matter where we have the facts.

It is truly sad to see all of the hateful posts from “Christians” toward non-believers. I am a Christian and I am very much offended by those who claim to be Christians while degrading your fellow human beings. In what universe would you convince someone to believe in God’s love while degraindg them and calling them names? Do you think you can hate someone into believing? NO! that is NOT Christ-like at all. If you truly are a beleiver and you have accepted Christ as your Savior, that means you have admitted you are a sinner just like everyone else. This leaves you absolutely no room to boast! Death is eternal separation from God and if your have hate in your heart, you will likely face eternal separation from God. Repent and turn to God.

What makes me a troll? Because I don’t agree with the statements in the comment section? Is that all it takes to make a troll?

I saw something I didn’t agree with, so I shared my opinion of it. We are all assuming we know what’s what. To make such a statement, as if you have full knowledge of what a god would do, or what actually happened to the girl, is fool hardy. I don’t care if that’s what people want to believe. They can believe it. That’s not going to change the fact that it’s nothing more then a BELIEF.

Assuming someone went to heaven, means that you think they believed in the same things you did. I obviously don’t believe in god, or heaven, so no matter how good of a person I am, there is no reason for someone to think I’d be in heaven. Call me an a hole all you want, but once again, we are only assuming. I’m an a hole, because I don’t agree with you. I’m sure every Christian will assume I went to hell. And I’m completely ok with going to that make believe place when I die, if that makes them feel better about their lives.

There is peace for us all if we believe in something beyond ourselves and reach out to our neighbors. We’ve all been here before and will be here again. That is until we can learn the true path that God wants us to follow. This is much harder than just saying it or preaching it to others.
I find science interesting and the facts are ever changing with time. I think that we’ll know all the answers to our questions after our souls leave this earth. The universe is big and our minds are small. People should not believe everything they read whether it’s the Bible which has been revised many times over the centuries or their school books that are also being revised year after year. Believe what you feel when you’re thinking beyond yourself and the things that others tell you are important. The biggest house, best cars, prettiest partners etc.. Truth is, we can only be happy when we think about others first. My best memories are when I help others and my greatest rewards come when I do it.
I’ve had many experiences that lead me to believe there are evil forces and heavenly forces at work here on earth. Choose where you want to be and receive the rewards of your actions. This is the way it works whether you believe in a higher power or Quantum Physics. We all get to choose our own path! May God bless us all…..

Sin brings death. If this girl put her faith in Christ, she no longer has to deal with her sin ever again. She gives account ONLY of her good works at the Bema Seat judgment of believers before the marriage supper of the Lamb in Heaven. Those who don’t accept Christ die in their sin [nature] and sins and go to Gehenna, where they’ll be resurrected in new bodies only to have to face God at the great White Throne judgment of unbelievers. Here they will be judged for authority of punishment in every word, deed and thought outside of faith in Christ. Then they are cast into the Lake of Fire eternally with the devil and his fallen angels. I don’t relish writing this, so come to Christ today.

Ever notice that Atheists very often attack Christians? If they truly didn’t believe that God or Jesus exist, they would dismiss Christianity as mere folly and ignore the rest. But when they attack, they show their true colors. Only one “person” and his followers attack Christians, and that is the Enemy (the Accuser)! Don’t you love how easy it is to see when Jesus is your Lord!

I enjoy reading the comments about atheists written by Bible thumpers…they are amusing. All an atheist is is somebody who doesn’t believe the way you do, that’s it. They don’t have a set agenda, and, believe it or not, they aren’t anti-Christians. They just don’t believe what you believe. It’s too bad Christians can’t “hang” with the fact that other people believe differently than they do. I wonder what Jesus would say about tolerating other people?

And Jack, “athists” read “articals” like this because they find religious hubris amusing.

  • Thos Weatherby

Shells, you’re putting to much emphasis on this. And it doesn’t have to be a contradiction. This is what most people don’t understand. In Quantum Mechanics, information can not be destroyed, Therefore, the makers of information can not be destroyed either. Stephen Hawkins even admitted he was wrong with the “missing information”. People will be thankful when they are here and they will be thankful when they are not. Because the bottom line is, this is an eternal song that we are dancing to.

“The blood of sacrifices shall be poured out … and thou shalt eat the flesh.” -Leviticus 12:27

Unfortunately, she wasn’t married. The Bible teaches that a woman’s only salvation is through her husband, who can bring her to heaven with his children and the rest of his slaves.

Maybe that’s why she was thanking god for not killing her before she could be saved.

  • Baldy Kirby from Atlanta

T-Dog slobbered the following “I enjoy reading the comments about atheists written by Bible thumpers…they are amusing”.

T-Dog, it’s people like you that make believe that there really IS a thing as an azzklown. Why do you leftist pimples always call anyone that is a Christian a ‘bible thumper”. Do you call Muslims “Koran thumpers”? Of course you don’t – you don’t have the stones to criticize anyone that is part of your moronic agenda anyway.

Let’s read some more of T-Dog’s blubbering:

“All an atheist is is somebody who doesn’t believe the way you do, that’s it. They don’t have a set agenda, and, believe it or not, they aren’t anti-Christians. They just don’t believe what you believe. It’s too bad Christians can’t “hang” with the fact that other people believe differently than they do”.

    Really, T-dog? REALLY?

An atheist doesn’t believe the way “we” do? Duh!

And they DON’T HAVE A SET AGENDA?

Danger, Will Robinson! Azzklown Alert! Azzklown Alert!

T-dog, atheists DO have an agenda, and that agenda is to make sure no one expresses their religious, excuse me, CHRISTIAN beliefs publicly. The more fanatical of your ilk go through the country legally attacking anything Christian anywhere.

Let’s finish this up – you’re so easy to slap around:

“I wonder what Jesus would say about tolerating other people?”

He would, but he not only would teach that the people should believe in God…

He would also find people of your ilk very, very trying…..

  • TLYG

So your all powerful god needs good people in heaven because there are things he can’t do? Couldn’t he have just created a good person in heaven rather than killing someone? Couldn’t he have made an exact duplicate of this young woman in heaven?

What would God need with anyone? Couldn’t he have created Heaven and Hell completely populated with souls as they will exist in the future? Why bother with a few thousand years of people living on Earth, when you could just fast forward?

Ummm… exactly whom are you talking about?

We’re speaking of Christianity, not Islam. Haven’t seen many Christians fly planes into buildings or blow themselves up recently.

And Christians aren’t normally left wing lying liberals (sorry if this gets too close to home for you), who PERSECUTE AND DESTROY ANYONE WHO DOESN’T FOLLOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO.

The idea of eternal is something which has no beginning and no end. Human beings are finite creatures that have a beginning. Not even the universe is eternal, for there was a time that it did not exist. There was a time that nothing existed except God. EVen nothing did not exist. Eternal life is not inherit in creatures. Only God has life in Himself. Human life is given by God and sustained by God. Eternal life is fellowship with the Father and the Son.

  • nemo

To answer your question, nothing can happen unless God allows it to happen. God has established an order in which he uses sinful human beings to achieve his will. If God destroyed everyone that was evil or sinful, neither you nor I would be alive. God is forced, so to speak, to use what is available, namely sinful and corrupt human beings. If things could occur without God’s will, He would not be God, but God allows human beings to reject his will. It was man that introduced death into the world, not God.

  • rushnfox

Very good of you to say it.
Yes, He must have loved her very much to take her now and save her from what the rest of us will be going through in a short while.

And from Isaiah, repeated in Corinthians: Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Our, main focus now must be to take the offer Jesus has presented us. In today’s vernacular a ‘Ticket to Ride’. We all have the opportunity to gain everlasting life, in Heaven, where this young lady is now. Try to imagine her life now. Surrounded by Love, content, peaceful with over abundant joy, fulfilled in every way, lacking nothing.

  • raplh martin

Well then she just proved what ive been thinking for years. God loves irony and he has a really weird sense of humor. :p I know why the atheists get so upset at xtians, its cause they are afraid they are wrong which they probably are. I dont know for sure as i havent died yet. I would rather like to believe the xtians are right. Its a much nicer thought than the atheists would have you believe. Thats the thing if the atheist is right, so what? You die and there is nothing, but if the xtians are right, and you are an atheist…its gonna suuuuuuck for you.

    simple+mind= simple minded
    simple+stupid= simply stupid
As you read remember you have eyes, to see, the next time you think remember you have a brain, to think, the next time you are dead remember your spirit has left and gone to hell. Don’t be so simple and stupid, you were made for much greater than you think. See and think so that when you die you will not be in hell. And your temper tantrum changes nothing.

@gumby: Stalin and Hitler were Christians. Pol Pot was a Buddhist. Mao Zedong was a Daoist that wrote of Gods in his poetry.

There has never been a war for the purpose of spreading atheism.

  • William

@nemo Yeah that reply does not at all answer my actual questions. I doubt any Christian on here will be able to answer the actual question. In reply to your comment, you said ‘nothing can happen unless God allows it to happen’ If that is so then god allowed people like Pol Pot and Stalin to be born “god allowed” them to live and kill millions of innocent people nothing can happen unless god allows it to happen. Christians can no longer use that argument against atheist people, But I am sure many will because you are all so inconsistent. God is all knowing and all powerful yet he allows dictating murderers to be born and walk this earth yet he condemns millions of African children to a short painful life of starvation. Nothing can happen unless god allows it your words Nemo

And on another note how do you know god has established this order and that is how he intended the world to work? Where does it say that in the bible? Or is that another line you use to justify your crazy beliefs.

My questions are probably the simple ones but still I never seem to get answers to them.

  • Scott Glancy

Bald Kirby – please explain how consciousness survives death. Explain how emotions are created without a brain.
What isn’t provable or even realistic is the claim that consciousness survives death and no thesis that explains the properties of this claim such as where the consciousness is stored, how perception is attained without eyes, optic nerves, corneas, eardrums, cochleas, neurotransmitters. dendrites. How locomotion is acheived without a body and how cognition is acheived without a brain.
The thing about simple minded beliefs of an afterlife is that they are NOT thought through or explained at all in any way shape or form.
That is the problem with willful ignorances based on intellectual laziness.

What makes this story of interest is the fact that she thanks “god” for this year of life–and then, suddenly dies on her birthday. Ironic? Coincidental? Certainly odd.

She’s gone. She’s not “in a better place” or “living eternally.” Death is the end of life. Plain and simple. Believers in gods will say all kinds of things to help satisfy their own doubts about life and death. That’s one of the reasons gods were invented–to comfort those afraid of death. Of course, that doesn’t make them any more real than leprechauns, Santa Claus, or Bigfoot.

Believers have faith. But, that’s because they have no evidence. Just stories, myths, legends, and occasionally an image on a grilled cheese sandwich or a waterstained wall. They see what they WANT to see.

God sent himself down to earth to sacrifice himself to himself because bleeding on the cross was the only way that he could convince himself to forgive us for the fact that an ancestor of ours that was made from a rib ate a magic fruit that she wasn’t supposed to eat after being tricked by a talking snake. Anyone that doesn’t believe this story will be tortured forever by the very god that loves us.

How can so many be so stupid!?

  • Mohammed

    Thanks….

I love how many Christians love comparing us atheists to Voldemort. But I’m afraid our problem is not with you because you’re a believer. It’s with you because you are intent on keeping your privileges over our rights and using the hateful condemnation of your Hell to attempt to control others.

And if the Muslims/Vikings/Greeks/etc. were right, it’s gonna suck for both of us. Pascal’s Wager has a very basic flaw. Which religion is right if one has to be?

There has not been evidence of a god in the 13,700,000,000 years the universe has existed. But hey, maybe we’ll find it tomorrow! LMFAO

//GOD has no teacher’s pets. We all graduate on our own merit, and we cannot graduate at all if we do not humble ourselves//

    are you saying we have to earn our place? But as Sid stated, why? If God made us, decided to save us from himself so he turned himself human as Jesus to save us by sacrificing himself in order to save us from himself. I think if the holy book is true then god makes it clear that nothing is impossible for us to achieve. Matt 17:20. Countless times its mentioned that all u need to do to get what you want is to pray. so let me try this being the philanthropic person i am i can be sincere and condecend myself to your level;

Dear god almighty, all powerful, omniscent, omnipotent creator of the universe, i pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet TONIGHT. I pray in faith knowing you will bless us as you CLEARLY DESCRIBE in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. In Jesus name i pray Amen.

I’ll be anticipating the breaking news, knowing that your god will answer. Knowing that God will answer my sincere completely heartfelt, unselfish, non-materialistic paper. My prayer will Glorify god and help millions of people in remarkable ways.

will it bumpkin? anyone feel free to comment.

  • Dave

Wow, what’s with all the hateful Christians here?

  • Debate Faith

    lol
Eternal life, really ? You have to be kidding
Someone dies and thats what you say, what a waste of comment not to mention someones life

  • Debate Faith

You people are just sick thinking that some sky daddy killed this woman and youre all ok with it. This is vile and disgusting, its a waste of what life is

  • Debate Faith

Maybe the lesson here is GET A CHECK UP once in a while, oh and stuff happens, oh one last lesson to be learned, if a god did this ITS EVIL

  • Debate Faith

That is just sick what youve said, its vile, its against mankind not alone reality
You dont know anything if you think a god has her, and if a god did have her, thats kidnapping and murder
Wow this is so so sickening

  • Debate Faith

These people adore a god that killed everything on the planet save a small boatful
How does someone come to terms with genocide for petulant monomaniacal reasons ?
For this reason alone these people need psychiatric help
It shows just how EVIL religion and a god belief is

To Buck, your book lies, bottom line, why dont you do some actual reseach
Josh McDowell is a lying scheming money grubbing apologist that is interested in playing you all for fools
Buck give me 5 things he says about a positive verdict about the existence of god and Ill show you the debunking of it

  • Ultra Empathy

Ultra Empathy is my website. I should have wriitten Google Ultra Empathy. The very first Google listing under ultra emapthy is mine. I graduated from a seminary. I could have been ordained, but I choose not to be, because I did not consider myself worthy. I spent 25 years of my life studying the bible. There is always room for all of us to learn more, but I doubt you know more Bible than I do.

  • Linn Craton

Maybe she posted to many of the duck face/kissy face pictures on her facebook, and god was tired of it! LOL!! This has to be the most amusing story i’ve ever read. “thank you god for another year of life”, and god tweets back: “LOL”. HA! If I offended any of you hard ass christians and catholics, I do not apologize. Blessed be!

  • Brother Timmy

Um, there are thousands of versions of bibles each very different – and none of them written by the original people it’s supposedly about nor about any scientifically proven fact not to mention totally missing anything straight from your god himself.

So – truth? Nah, just a lot of attempts at looking big. Same goes for the people here who spit it out as if they were deemed by God as his personal spokes person which is truly pathetic.

  • Linn Craton

I’ve said for the longest time, that the religious fanatics in this country of ours are insane. God created man in his own image and likeness, but then blames us for his mistakes? That doesn’t seem remotely fair. How about this one: If we are all gods children, and we were all created in his image and likeness, then explain to me why my brother in law get chastised DAILY because he’s gay. He constantly gets told he’s going to burn in hell because of it. Why? If we are all created in gods image and likeness, why does he judge us on how we live our lives? And if he doesn’t judge us, why does he let his followers pass judgement on him? And here’s my final argument, I am a Pagan. And the last time I checked….our priests never raped little boys. :)

This is the sad story of someone’s beautiful daughter who passed away, way too young. It is not some 3rd grade debate class on whether or not science and the afterlife can co-exist! GROW UP!

Carl, when I drew up a will, I did not include everyone in town. I singled out my dear family. When I give a tip at the restaurant, I don’t give my wife’s wedding ring, but about 10% of the bill. If you want to pray in Jesus’ Name, you’ll have to be one of Jesus’ people and have the full content of the prayer what He elsewhere taught His followers, on your mind: Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  • Glories

Very true, we need to connect to God now. When Mattie Stepanek, peace maker, died at a very young age, I was very sad – the whole world was very sad. I had hoped that God would cure him and when I went to Mass to receive Jesus and commune with Him, I whispered to HIm in my soul, “Surely, this soul went straight to heaven, Lord”. During the Mass when the Hosannas ring high to heaven and the words were spoken, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”, God opened a vision in my mind of Mattie in the arms of Jesus enjoying a ride on the donkey. He was very content. Later that week when Mattie’s funeral began I heard on the news that the casket was carried on a firetruck, just as Mattie would have loved it to be. Then I realized that the vision God allowed me to see was really Mattie with Jesus and I just smile. Yes, that definitely was Mattie. He was in heaven enjoying his life in heaven and Jesus was his greatest joy.
Some of us in this life want to search for God and some of us don’t. Either way, God exists. If our desire on earth is to be in heaven with God how much greater is God’s desire for us to be with Him?

  • karl anglin

    You said it all Larz

  • me@here.net

Meh. I think what it is like when you die is an awful lot like before you were born. Don’t remember that either? Yeah, heaven and hell. I’m not so convinced.

  • Scott

This girl was not killed by god, nor did she die due to any sort of “irony.” It happened, it had nothing to do with her tweet, nor the fact that she thanked god for another year of life. Death happens daily, at almost every moment in life. It is a sad thing, the loss of life, but people try to look for more than is there.
