There are a lot of things to do during the holidays and right now is no exception. Between visits with families, Christmas parties, an overnight to Harrahs Cherokee Casino, college bowls games, and playing WWE ’12 on the xBox360 (yes I did the create a wrestler option for Lance Storm) there is no time for blogging.

However if I could be serious for a minute, I will take the time to point out how lucky we are to live in the Carolinas where we have a plethora of exciting sporting events going on. Unlike larger cities that have two major league baseball teams, we have none. But what we do have is a lot of fun and here are a few examples (forgive me if I miss anything):

Golf – The Championship at Quail Hollow is almost as big as the majors and Pinehurst gets the US Open every so often, not to mention the countless of great courses in SC and NC.

Football – The Carolina Panthers have had a lot of success in their brief history and now with the addition of Cam Newton they are exciting again. Throw in the SEC’s South Carolina Gamecocks and the ACC’s Clemson, Wake Forest, NC State, North Carolina, and Duke and you have yourself plenty of football to choose from. I would be remiss not to mention App State, Furman, Citadel, Coastal Carolina, WCU, ECU, Wingate, and more. Plus we have the Charlotte 49ers started the season after next. The Belk Bowl in Charlotte between the ACC and Big East is typically a great game to watch and we also have the ACC Football Championship.

Basketball – Michael Jordan is trying to make the Charlotte Bobcats relevant and with young players like Kemba Walker he is doing just that. With the rich history of the college basketball in the two states you can’t go wrong.

Hockey – Most people in the south don’t care about hockey, but for us puck heads we have the Charlotte Checkers and the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.

Baseball – As I mentioned we may not have major league baseball but we have plenty of “pro” teams. With the AAA Charlotte Knights and other great minor league teams (Greenville Drive, Durham Bulls, etc.) there are lots of choices to see the boys of summer become men of fall.

Racing – If you’re a Nascar fan we’ve got you covered. The Coca Cola 600, the All Star Race, and the Banking 500 take place at Charlotte Motor Speedway along with the big race down in Darlington (If you’ve never been to Darlington I recommend it!). We also have countless speedways, dirt tracks, testing tracks, and several dragstrips. Oh and we have that sweet thing called the Nascar Hall of Fame.

So while we may not have the Bronx Bombers, Lebron, or the Patriots, we do have Cam, Kemba, and a lot of fun sports in a short driving distance here in North and South Carolina.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have three titles to go win with Lance Storm. You can follow me on Twitter @BruceRWilson and happy new year to all!
