Cops: Man Found Dead In Ocean After Beating Wife With Hammer
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – Horris County police say a 55-year-old man was found dead in the ocean at North Myrtle Beach just hours after beating his wife with a hammer.
Police identified the man as Dean Curtis Way, the same person authorities wanted for questioning about the assault of his wife.
According to police reports obtained by CBS Charlotte, Way “snapped” after his wife of 15 years told him that she wanted a puppy for Christmas.
According to the report, Way grabbed his wife and threw her to the ground. His wife told police that while on the ground he kept hitting her in the head with a rubber hammer.
She then told police that after he stopped hitting her, he went to grab his gun and loaded it.
She was scared and waited for Way to leave the residence before she called for help.
A few hours later, police found Way’s vehicle in the Cherry Grove section with a similar gun and a bottle of vodka.
Way did not have a history of violence.
