CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) – A Charlotte man pleads guilty to having child pornography on his cell phone after it was discovered at the scene of a car accident.

Michael Washington, 35, plead guilty to four counts of first-degree sex offense on Monday, stemming from an April 7 wreck in which a passenger in Washington’s car discovered images of Washington forcing a young girl to perform sexual acts on him.

Earlier this year, Washington was involved in a wreck on Harrisburg Road. The passenger in the car picked up Washington’s cell phone. WBTV reports that the male passenger began to look through Washington’s phone and found the disturbing child pornography.

Upon identifying the girl in the photos, the passenger reached out to a family member who then notified the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Authorities would later identify the man in the photos as being Washington himself.

With his guilty plea, Washington will spend at least 17 years in prison with a maximum sentence of 21 years.

“I hope the inmates show the same mercy as you showed my daughter,” the girl’s father said of Washington to WBTV.

Messages left by CBS Charlotte for Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were not immediately returned.
