COLUMBIA, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – A 25-year-old male teacher and former college basketball player has been accused of sending a nude picture over Facebook to a 14-year-old child.

Tyler Crawford Pitt, 25, was arrested Thursday after a teenager’s mother discovered that he sent a picture of his naked body to the child during the summer.

Authorities have indicated that Pitt, a teacher at Whitmire Middle School in Whitmire, S.C., had met the victim while Pitt was teaching at Woodruff High School in Woodruff, S.C, according to WSPA. The Attorney General’s Office has noted that Pitt had transferred schools by the time the allegation came to light.

According to the arrest warrant and release made by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, Pitt sent the nude picture to the 14-year-old on his Facebook account on July 6 of this year. Police believe the child’s mother found the picture and alerted authorities shortly thereafter.

Pitt has about 34 Facebook friends, both male and female, who have a high school listed as their main social network, according to Pitt’s Facebook profile. This does not include Facebook friends of his who list high schools as their employers. Pitt lists on his Facebook account that he studied history education and pre-law at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.

While at Lander, Pitt was also a guard for the school’s Division II men’s basketball team from 2004 to 2008, an official with the university’s sports information department told CBS Charlotte.

Pitt has been charged with dissemination of obscene material to a minor. He could face up to 10 years in prison. His arrest is the 299th arrest made for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which began in 1998 as part of the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
