KKK Fliers Found On South Carolina Properties Over Thanksgiving Weekend
LADSON, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – A slew of fliers in support of the Ku Klux Klan were littered on several properties of one South Carolina town over the weekend.
Residents of one Ladson, S.C., neighborhood were surprised to find pamphlets highlighting and supporting membership of the Ku Klux Klan in their mailboxes on Sunday. The flier – which says “Save our land, join the Klan” — features a Klansman wielding a torch riding a horse that is also in a KKK costume.
WCSC-TV reports that a neighbor told Berkeley County police that he saw an SUV driving slowly around the neighborhood at around 1 a.m. Sunday. He said he heard a loud noise, but was unable to see who was driving the vehicle.
“I was just floored,” resident Genevieve Henderson told WCSC. “I was completely floored because I said not now, not this time of year.” She later added: “We’re from a loving family. This neighborhood is a loving neighborhood and to have something like this destroy it, it hurts.”
Police have told residents that they would be around the neighborhood during the next few nights to make sure there isn’t a follow-up incident. Messages left by CBS Charlotte to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were not immediately returned.
