Clemson is a legitimate national title contender. Seriously. If they win the rest of their games they have as good of a shot as anyone. With Oklahoma and Wisconsin both losing it opens the door for the boys from Death Valley. Someone will lose in Tuscaloosa next weekend, and that leaves Oklahoma State as the only other hurdle. The Cowboys still have Baylor, K State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma left on their schedule. If they lose an undefeated Clemson squad becomes the favorite to get to New Orleans. Oh, there is one problem: I don’t think Clemson will go undefeated. Whether its this weekend in Atlanta, in a couple of weeks in Raleigh, Thanksgiving weekend in Columbia, or in Charlotte I think the Tigers are going to slip up. But if I’m wrong the Tigers have every chance of getting to the Big Easy.

The Panthers beating the Redskins was a must win. Not because it helps their chances of making the playoffs this season, or to help them in future seasons. It was a must to keep the fans committed in Charlotte. You know good and well the Panthers would be playing in front of an empty stadium this Sunday against Minnesota if they would’ve lost to the Skins. No matter how many more wins they get this season, the Cats should be a playoff contender next season. But they’ve got to keep the fans engaged right now. That’s why winning was such a big deal on Sunday.
