The “Matthews Help Center” cares about families experiencing food shortages as they serve those hungry in the Matthews area. From July 1 2010 to June 30, 2011, the Matthews Help Center supplied $291,000 in financial help, fed 3,992 clients and helped cloth 134 families.
The Matthews Help Center has a great relationship with DSS in Mecklenburg County as they have a case worker in-house every 3rd Monday of the month. Helping the “Food bank” helps children! Every Friday the Matthews Help Center chooses 2 schools in the Matthews area supplying backpacks filled with food for children and their entire families who need extra food in their pantries. The backpacks of food will last for the weekend and United Methodist Church assist as they supply transportation getting the backpacks to the children at the designated schools. United Methodist Church also supplies the backpacks. Matthews Farmers Market sends coolers full of fresh fruit and vegetables to the Food Bank to help families balance their diet. The Matthews Help Center wants you to come out and support Backdoor Treasures Thrift Store. The Thrift Store is open 9am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday, all funding the “Food Bank”. Thanks to all volunteers, who make it happen.
