SPARTANBURG COUNTY(CBSCharlotte) – Two young men were arrested for allegedly shooting two donkeys and a llama dead early Thursday morning.

According to WYFF-TV, tips from the public led the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office to Brandon Kelly Thomas, 21, and Anthony Jerome Waters, 17.

Police say they confiscated the weapon, a .22-caliber rifle, that Thomas and Waters used in the attack. Both Thomas and Waters confessed to the crime but did not give a reason as to why they did it, according to authorities.

The llama and one of the donkeys were killed in the pasture owned by Wilber Kennedy onRacetrack Road. The second donkey was owned by Harold Melton and was killed in its pasture that same night onWaddell Road in Woodruff.

Kenneth Evers, Kennedy’s neighbor, told WYFF-TV that he heard the gunshots. He first thought they were firecrackers, but he then realized it was gunfire from a slow moving car.

When he stepped out of his house onto the porch, he heard another burst of gunshots from the area of where the dead llama was found.

Thomas and Waters are being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center and are charged with two counts of animal torture.
