Taylor’s Thursday Sweet 16 Picks
Florida vs BYU- I love the Jimmer. There’s something about watching a pure shooter single-handedly beat the opponent. But he doesn’t play defense and BYU doesn’t have the horses to match up with the Gators. I like Florida to win it and move on to play…
Butler vs Wisconsin- …Butler. Brad Stevens certainly did a great job last year but to get this far without Gordon Hayward is unbelievable. Shelvin Mack, Matt Howard, and Ronald Nored don’t think they can lose. There’s something unstoppable about that. The game will be played at Wisconsin’s boring pace, but I like Butler to outscore the Badgers.
San Diego St vs UConn- The Aztecs have never ever been to the Sweet 16. They tried with all of their might to lose in the round of 32 to an undermatched Temple team but prevailed in Double OT. Something stuck out to me in that game: Steve Fisher isn’t a very good tactician. Fran Dunphy of Temple is, and so is Jim Calhoun of UConn. Because of Calhoun, and Kemba Walker, I think the Huskies will win big.
Duke vs Arizona- when the brackets first came out I picked Arizona to beat Texas, and then upset Duke. After thinking about it for awhile, and maybe overthinking it, I changed my mind. I think Duke will win an incredibly close game but the Plumlees better show up and stop Derrick Williams. Look for Seth Curry to bounce back and hit some big outside shots late.
So I’ve got Duke, UConn, Florida, and Butler tonight. I’ll pick the other four tomorrow..
