Showdown at the O.K. Corral. NFL Owners (especially Jerry Richardson), please put down your Guns; NFL Players (including Peyton Manning & Drew Brees), please put down your guns. The future of the 2001 season is in peril at this very moment. DeMaurice Smith, the executive director of the NFL Players’ Association, is playing the role of Luke Skywalker versus Carolina Panthers majority partner Mr. Richardson in a “Battle of Attrition”. Of course, the Commissioner Roger Goodell is teetering between The Emperor & Yoda.
Kicker Jay Feely (Yeah I know, why is a freaking kicker at these meetings?), an NFLPA Player representative for the Arizona Cardinals, characterized Richardson as a “BULLY” in the negotiating room against the Four-time Most Valuable Player Mr. Manning from the Indianapolis Colts. Allegedly, Richardson condescedningly said to #18 quote: “Do I need to help you read a revenue chart son? Do I need to help break that down for you, because I don’t know if you understand how to read that.” If that indeed is even somewhat true, to respond in text message fashion,: OMG…WOW…WTF???
Mr. Richardson, this is NO time to flex your proverbial muscles. At the end of the day, the owners always hold the ultimate power because they sign the checks. The players just cash them. MEMO To Everyone involved including Richardson, Goodell, Smith, Manning, Brees, etc.: Everyone take a deep breath; now, STOP acting like a bunch of petulant, self indulgent Billionaires & Multi-Millionaires!!! Take a moment to remember the very reason why each and everyone of you gets to live a “Quality of Life” incomprehensible to normal folk like myself. Without US a.k.a. “THE FANS”, there is NO world-wide EIGHT Billion Dollar Entity better known as the National Football League.
