1-26-11 “The Drive” Vince Young has more talent. Ryan Mallett and Cameron Newton are much better long term projects. Kyle Orton has more left in the tank. But Donovan McNabb is the best quarterback available to the Carolina Panthers in 2011. Now the Panthers MUST identify a long term solution and McNabb is not it. But this franchise is desperate for an experienced leader that gives them a chance to win in 2011.
I know McNabb was a disaster in DC. But was it all his fault? Daniel Snyder, Mike Shanahan and the Redskins traded within their division to get McNabb, benched him in the final few minutes of a game, gave him an exhorbitant contract, benched him again, and will now tear up that deal. I think its quite clear that fault lies with the organization at least as much as it does with #5.
Plus, I believe McNabb has something left to prove. He has a year or two left of ability and that is exactly what Carolina is searching for. Jimmy Clausen, Tony Pike, or even Ryan Mallett aren’t as prepared in 2011 to take the field as Donovan is. Vince Young is too much of a risk. There are too many bars, strip clubs, and pretty women in the Queen City for VY to handle. So why not McNabb? Like my buddy Marc James, the Panthers are looking to rent; not to buy.
